Forums - Gaming Discussion - PSN class action lawsuit- you could get some free stuff (again)

I'm sure everyone remembers the PSN outage in 2011 that resulted in a big breach of data. Well, Sony is now being forced to offer additionial content aside from the Welcome Back package. If the judge OKs it, all PSN members from that time will get some free stuff. You have the choice of 1 out of 14 PS3 and PSP games, 1 out of 3 themes, and three months of free PS+.

http://www.vg247.com/2014/07/24/psn-outage-15-million-settlement/

"Up to $6 million of this content will be distributed to users who were PSN members at the time of the outage and didn’t benefit from Sony’s Welcome Back package. Claims will be honoured on a first-in basis, and you’ll be able to choose up to two bonuses – including the same one twice, if you like.

A further $4 million worth of content is to be awarded to those who did take advantage of the Welcome Back bonus; these users will only receive one piece of bonus content, and again, first-in, best dressed. Affected Qriocity and SOE members who didn’t have PSN accounts will also be compensated."

Haha free stuff I love free stuff! (give me rusty's baseball thingy to EU.........NOW! )

Damn, I had a PSP and just got a PS3 at the time, didn't have a PSN account yet

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Nope.. I already claimed my 2 games back in 2011.. and I'm not from 'Murcia so I'm out..:

- Claimants in the case who didn't get anything from the Welcome Back campaign Sony ran back in 2011 (but who were active PSN account holders at the time) are able to choose two of the following three freebies: a free PS3 or PSP game (from an as-yet unseen list), some PS3 themes or three free months of PlayStation Plus.

- These claims are only on a first-come, first-served basis. Once Sony has given out $6,000,000 of games/themes/subs to those folks, the deal is off, and anyone still after something will get one month's free PS Plus.

- If you did get a free game from the Welcome Back campaign, you can choose one of the above options (game, themes or 3 months of PS Plus) instead of two. That offer is also capped, this time at $4,000,000, with the same one-month PS Plus deal available to anyone who misses out.

- Anyone with an active account who lost unused PlayStation Store credits will, if their balance was above $2, get that money back.

- If you were a Netflix or Hulu Plus subscriber who couldn't access their account, you're eligible for three free months of PlayStation Plus.

- Anyone able to prove they had their identity stolen as a result of the hacks that caused the downtime is eligible for up to $2500.

Note that this settlement will only cover those in the United States, since that's where these particular class-action lawsuits were brought forward. What happens in other regions is up to Sony and whatever similar cases were lodged there.

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Not complaining over here, but I thought that the compensation packages from back then were enough.

Now, I wonder what are those 14 PS3 and PSP games.

Yeah, US only, which really does suck for the millions outside that were also affected.

LOL, even though it says Sony lost, with this pay out they Won,

Here's some old game we already game you after the outage but this time if you want them you have to jump through some hoops filling in paper work.

A settlement where they win what they already could of had but this time its more difficult and 3 years later.

Looks like Sony lucked out with the US only thing.

And for this, some law firm somewhere made millions of dollars.

I didn't read the article. Are the games the same as 2011 or nit? Somebody make a tl;dr version.
