Yeah, the bitrate is an accurate representation of overall bandwith, so I just included that. Should be the same since bit rate is measured in bits, not bytes, so the conversion should work out.

But yeah, completely agree. No mechanically spinning drive is going to max out the bandwith for the most part, SSDs might, but those are much more expensive overall (for now).

Yh I know the conversion works out, was just giving a simpler explanation for the person you were explaining it too :).

But come on!!! Prices of SSDs has to come down a lot faster than they are now, I just can't justify spending as much or more for a 1TB SSD as I did for the PS4 that I want to put it in. Ah well, maybe with the PS4 we get SATAe and SSDs as standard.

Yeah, SSDs are overkill in pricing. The lower storage drives (<128GB) are relatively affordable, but the higher options are simply crazy. It's a shame too, SSDs make everything so much snappier.

Indifferent. If i ever want to use something else i'll change the internal, i just don't like using externals. In fact i don't own one at all lol. But i have 3 internals

Yeah wiiu and xbone1 support exterernal drives.sony claims that they can hack the ps4 .
I hope they change there minds

Maybe that's what the stability updates are for.

I never intend on using one, so I don't really care. Needing to lug around a hard drive seems like an added inconvenience. I'm not going to say no to external HDDs, but I'm not going to fight for it either. Also, you could get an external 2.5 inch HDD and take the HDD out of the enclosure. I think it's kinda funny that that's somehow cheaper...

Not sure why they don't. I got this one, and it was super easy to put in, it's literally as easy as sliding a cartridge in and out. I have also noticed my system runs a little smoother, with shorter load times. I personally prefer internal, because they do not take up extra space!

It's not. Prices for internal 2.5" HDDs are obscenely expensive once you get in the ~2TB range. I can get a 3TB external for the same price as a 1TB internal.

Wouldn't USB bandwith slow the games ?

usb 3 bandwidth is faster than the sata 2 connection in the ps4 (nearly twice as fast)

I know that Sony has said that the PS4 won't have external HDD support, but I'm confused as to why. A USB 3.0 external HDD should easily match the speed of the internal. Also, it's hard to find 2.5" HDDs over 1TB for a reasonable price, while 3-4TB external USB 3.0 HDDs can be found for relatively cheap. I'm really not sure why this isn't supported, especially considering that game installs are mandatory not, and that games are bigger than ever. I'm almost full on the 5000GB already, and would love to hook up my 3TB external to my PS4.

Does anyone know exactly why Sony isn't supporting externals? It can't possibly be a homebrew issue since both the Xbox One and the Wii U support exterals and have had no problems. I tried looking for the exact reason, but couldn't find one. Anyone know?

do you get everything that comes out. I've never had an issue with space, ever. I get rid of my games and delete the save file, once I'm done with the game. I might have between 7-10 games at once, but that's usually my max.

While I personally don't much care about external HDD support I find this argument specious and irrelevant. Adding the ability to add external HDD doesn't preclude you from continuing to manage your HDD spce the way you do now. Adding options is a great thing and if there are PS4 owners who want to use an external HDD to add to their storage options so they can avoid having to delete and redownload games I think Sony should consider adding it in the future.

It's not as easy, but if you look a little bit, you can find decent prices for 2.5 inch ard drives.
