This lacking feature isn't a big deal to me as I'd prefer to simply put in a larger internal HDD.

The lack of DLNA streaming is extraordinarily disappointing though.

Ah man, DLNA too. I used that feature so much on my PS3, saved me a bunch of space since I never had to download music and videos

HTML 5 streaming works but is far less convenient.

It's very simple and inexpensive to install a 1TB SSHD. I've had it since launch, and it's still not even a quarter full. And I buy everything digitally. I just delete it when I'm done, it's not like I play 10 games at a time. And I can always download them again quickly if I need to.

I'd rather have the option to only be able to upgrade the internal HDD rather than not, but having both would be nice. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony added external support at some point, but it's strange it hasn't been a feature since day one. I can't really think of a negative to having it available :/

I know that Sony has said that the PS4 won't have external HDD support, but I'm confused as to why. A USB 3.0 external HDD should easily match the speed of the internal. Also, it's hard to find 2.5" HDDs over 1TB for a reasonable price, while 3-4TB external USB 3.0 HDDs can be found for relatively cheap. I'm really not sure why this isn't supported, especially considering that game installs are mandatory now, and that games are bigger than ever. I'm almost full on the 500GB already, and would love to hook up my 3TB external to my PS4.

Does anyone know exactly why Sony isn't supporting externals? It can't possibly be a homebrew issue since both the Xbox One and the Wii U support exterals and have had no problems. I tried looking for the exact reason, but couldn't find one. Anyone know?

Edit, 500GB, not 5000 XD

XB1 has external drive support? I looked it up but all I could see was that it's not currently supported. Huh?

Yeah, the problem is that I also use take a lot of game footage and pictures, which takes up memories. 4 of my games alone take up 200GB, and I play a lot of them with friends, so it scares me to think how fast even 1TB might run out.

I'll probably suck it up and just get a 2TB internal HDD down the road, expensive as hell but what can ya do?

'twas unlocked last month, you can use the external for everything, including game installations now.

Just noticed a link finally on the 8th page of bing results...

And apparently the internal is crazy slow as well. Users are saying an external 7200 increases loading by massive amounts
