I know that Sony has said that the PS4 won't have external HDD support, but I'm confused as to why. A USB 3.0 external HDD should easily match the speed of the internal. Also, it's hard to find 2.5" HDDs over 1TB for a reasonable price, while 3-4TB external USB 3.0 HDDs can be found for relatively cheap. I'm really not sure why this isn't supported, especially considering that game installs are mandatory now, and that games are bigger than ever. I'm almost full on the 500GB already, and would love to hook up my 3TB external to my PS4.

Does anyone know exactly why Sony isn't supporting externals? It can't possibly be a homebrew issue since both the Xbox One and the Wii U support exterals and have had no problems. I tried looking for the exact reason, but couldn't find one. Anyone know?

Edit, 500GB, not 5000 XD

do you get everything that comes out. I've never had an issue with space, ever. I get rid of my games and delete the save file, once I'm done with the game. I might have between 7-10 games at once, but that's usually my max.

I thought they already did..
Xbox One and Wii U have it and/or got it later, but PS4 really doesn't have this feature?

I have a couple of full titles like CoD Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, and Killzone which take up almost 200GB by themselves, and then a bunch of PS+ titles. I do delete games, but a lot of them I replay a lot or play with my friends, and some of them I haven't beaten.

The big dealbreaker is the saving videos though. Lots of gameplay videos are over 100MB in size, and I take plenty to share with my friends. I do delete some of them later, but others I like to keep.

with a 3TB HDD you dont need to erase nothing on a console, or PC, my wiiU and my gaming PC say hello to you ;)

34 years playing games.

Doubt it will happen. Largely on the basis of avoiding it getting hacked, pirating games, or some other excuse.

Same reason others can't have swappable internal HDD support.

Thanks jlmurph!

I'm pretty sure they said it's coming at some point. I wouldn't be surprised if they know about a little hole in the software that hackers could easily take advantage of with an external hard drive.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

I love my 3TB external. I got it for relatively cheap ($50), and it can store anything and everything I ever need. I can have my whole game collection on there!

This lacking feature isn't a big deal to me as I'd prefer to simply put in a larger internal HDD.

The lack of DLNA streaming is extraordinarily disappointing though.
