PS4 version will do it handly. X1 version will depend on how much PS4 version will dominate. I still think it will. But let's be real, this game won't get a sequel in 1 year. It is made to have a lot of expansions and I can only see Destiny 2 in 2 years. Preorders are insane, marketing is insane, people are completely blind about how well this game will sell. It will dominate the holidays in an almost embarassing way to Activision competitors.

But it isnt a good comparison.  Not only is mario kart a bigger franchise than smash, but watch dogs isnt supposed to be nearly as big as destiny.

Exactly. Destiny preorders at 8 weeks from launch are simply obliterating what WD had at 1 week from launch.

Probably not.

If Smash's sales stay to form with it's predecessors, selling at least 6m and up to 10m lifetime, it'll be a very hard task for XBone's version of Destiny to beat that. PS4's might, if the game's internet hype translates well, but even that one could have a hard time. First week sales maybe has a better chance though.

This. You might notice that first week Watchdogs PS4 did beat MK8 first week, but second week already MK8 was leading. These games like Watchdogs, Destiny and so on have strongly front-loaded sales while MK and Smash have more legs. Well, still it depends how well WiiU sells overall, if nobody owns a WiiU, nobody can buy Smash, but that problem applies to X1 too.

There's certainly a chance in 2014 sales it will.

Because Smash may sell 0 units this year......

I believe you also said there were rumours a big Nintendo release was being delayed... interesting... very interesting indeed.

Take it with a big grain of salt as I dont have anything super solid but Ive heard February release date thrown around.

Could still be this year though. There is a reason we still dont have a date.

if this is true then Ninty really goofed

Non of you who tried to reply came up with an answer in regard to the context of the whole argument, MK is a bigger franchise then Smash? Your point? How does this make it a bad comparison? Melee sold 7m on the GC and 12m on the Wii so Smash is still bigger then 90% of franchises out there and the biggest fighting game out there period, who exactly told you WDs isn't supposed to be as big as Destiny? As I recall it was the first official next gen title announced and shown over two years ago with the now notorious E3 tech demo and was hyped more then any other title this gen so far.

All I'm getting from some of you is "He just shouldn't do the comparison".

What? Being the first announced next gen game somehow makes it more anticipated?  So dark void was a super hyped game last gen?  Look at the preorders for these games and what analysts are saying.  Destiny may actually sell more than call of duty this year.  NOBODY was expecting watch dogs to sell close to that.

Im saying the comparison is a bad one and not representative of what this thread is about.  It is lopsided on both ends of the comparison.  Mario kart is bigger than smash, and watch dogs isnt as big as destiny.  What i said is pretty straightforward really.  However, feel free to keep comparing them, im just saying it is a bad comparison...

Do you think Smash will outsell Mariokart? (It's just a normal question, I'm not saying mariokart will sell less than 6 million LTD.)

The fact is when it came to next gen titles WDs for a long time was all people would talk about so to try and palm it off as a surprise it sold well considering how hard Ubisoft pushed it is coming across as amusing at times unless you had your head in the sand or jumped on the WD hate wagon when those gifs came out it was always going to do well, Smash is still one of the bigger franchises for Nintendo only 7 games on a single platform (2 for PS3, 5) last gen outsold Brawl and all of them are games that launched years after Brawl when the userbases were near their peak on the other platforms. What makes this more redundant is that the prediction says the X1 version so how many of those pre-orders are for X1 and how many were strictly to get a Beta Key and would they be as high with out the Beta Key? The top selling X1 game is Titanfall at 2m followed by  COD at 1.9m, these are numbers Smash will easily pass over time and third party games are front loaded I don't see Desitny selling after the first year which hits the prediction even more.

He in fact did the precdiction some flattery using the PS4 version of WD as PS4 is where Destiny will sell most on not X1.

Ok, well you are talking about some unmeasurable hype rating, and i am talking about actual preorder numbers and analysts predictions... So... Yeah...

plus, as i said in the op, obviously the ps4 will be the best selling, but the way they are structuring destiny, I am basically predicting really long legs for the game.  That is what my prediction is based on.

I don't see that happening, the reason many games fall off is because the's always an alternative while the type of games with no alternative are either niche or have strong staying power and Destiny being a FPS already has a disadvantage in that area. In order for Destiny to have long legs it would have to be able to stand up to the games released after it from the CODs, BF, Halo and so on, for all you know next year's batch of FPS may even be back to form or if the game is a hit will emulate it. I don't see it happening, after next year the game will just focus on the userbase and deliver the planned years of support to them like they did with Halo 2.

Halo 5 alone may kill off Destiny on the X1 next year I don't think you took into account all the factors.

Destiny is doing a lot to keep people interested and buying the game though.  It is supposed to have fairly regular expansions come out, and the characters you create are built to be fully transferable between games.  So if you dont buy destiny, but buy the sequel, you can then take that character you created in destiny 2, and use it in destiny to play all the original content you missed.  This strategy actually seems like it will help drive sells for the first destiny after sequels come out rather than diminishing them.

Maybe you should research destiny a bit more, there is a reason i am so bullish on its potential...
