How do all these forum dwellers and blog writers know how profitable the Xbox has been for MS when its constantly been in a division with lots of other MS products?

Well as I have posted previously, the fiscal year 08 (July 2007 - June 2008), the entertainment and devices division was mostly comprised of Xbox 360, Windows Phone (?), and Zune, the latter of which was not a source of profit to say the least. Now, Android royalties give that division a boost but back then, Android never released until September 2008. So Xbox 360 was profitable then and likely stayed profitable (especially considering the kinect boost) until November 2013, until which the Xbox 1 margins may affect Xbox profitability as a whole.

You lost then.

BWAH HA HA HA.  Sure buddy.  I lost.  You won.  Whee!  Have fun with your "victory".

There is no victory. Only the knowledge that Xbox was profitable at a certain point in time, a claim to which you steadfastly refused to believe.

Citing Android royalties softening Xbox woes, I countered that a quarterly statement in July 2008 showed profitability when Android itself didn't exist until later in the year.

While you have every right to want Xbox One to fail and cite lack of profit for cause, what you cannot say however is that Xbox never made money, ever. Because I have shown that is not the case.

No it was not.....You simply don't understand what people mean when they say "It was neve rprofitable". The xbox original lost billions, what small profit 360 made a few years has not come close to ever making up for that, and the x1 is not going to come close to x1 sales. the division as a WHOLE is still a LONG ways in the red, a few quarters of 360 profit does not change that,

Actually that claim may be not as bad as many think. Because Xbox 360 was profitable since 2008 and likely stayed profitable until now. Xbox 1 losses are likely happening, but Xbox 360 has profited for 5 years now, especially since kinect came in 2010.

I am now curious, because while Xbox itself is still in the red, I wonder just how much the Xbox 360 profits have cut it down by. However,Microsoft and Sony have been lumping in their consoles with other products for years now so it is hard to be sure just how much.

All that aside, the user I was talking about didn't seem like he had your perspective. It sounded a lot like Xbox never made profit in any single year, not over the lifetime of the brand. Otherwise he would have specified that at some point.

The division has never been profitable overall period.

On that we can agree. But that wasn't the debate I was previously having. The other person was convinced Xbox never profited in any point in time, to which I countered as best I could. Thank you.

Seriously, why is 90% of the people on this website so ignorant? I mean if all of you guys have such a personal vendetta against xbox, why don't you burn down the company yet? If you think the Xbox one will flop you're an idiot. Plus I don't get why everyone is praising the Wii U for finally getting it's sales better then the Xbox. Personally, in this generation, this seems a lot more normal. The Wii U didn't have any games and it was selling WORSE then the Xbox one is currently. Now the Wii U got a huge boost in sales once more games came out (Mario Kart 8). Now, using logic, imagine how much the Xbox One sales will increase after the release of a Halo.

The fact that the Xbox one is within 2 million units of the Wii U when it released a year earlier shows that the Xbox One is actually in a better position than the Wii U currently is. Flame me all you want, this is the truth

What I find amazing is that here we have a multi-billion dollar company that releases a DEEPLY flawed, underpowered, overpriced product that has HALF the games of the similarly priced competition, and yet we have flocks of people defending it?  Why?  It's less that we are "fanboys" of Sony than the fact that we object to being sold a bill of goods by snake oil salesman.  I really don't get why people are so damn loyal to MS!  Did they pay you way through college or something?  I seem to remember, last generation, having to buy MULTIPLE Xbox 360 consoles, because of their poor engineering...so why back them this time?  Is Halo really THAT great?  Seriously...I want to know!  Why is everyone so worked up to defend a product that is CLEARLY broken/inferior?

Um.....not sure if you are in the know, but the Xbox One is no longer deeply flawed (all cons were removed since May 2013), it is underpowered (but not much like WiiU), and is priced the same as PS4.

Half the games? More games doesn't mean better. 360 has hundreds of games over PS3, more 70-79, 80-89, 90+ games on metacritic. So you admit 360 was a superior console because it has more games? For me, X1 has more AAA games not on PS4 at the moment. Surely that is worth something.....hell that was PS3 fans defining argument for years, despite 360 having more games released per year.

People mlike something and they will defend it. I like Halo, so naturally I will defend it. You like PS, so naturally you will defend it. What I don't get is that you insist on kicking people while down, even though you should be happy knowing your console is going to win.

I read this read and it looks like your just hating now, totally going off your origional point. Just let this thread die.
