Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Now that the Vita has a lasting success in Japan, do Wii U owners have hope or the same type of lasting turn around?

Any game system that keeps going can built an enticing library over time. Often it's not about one game, as we sometimes claim on VGC, but about the cumulative effect of several good games. The Vita is a good example of this, I think, as it has few big games but a lot of quality mid-tier titles. The Wii U will never have the same volume but it will have some higher profile titles.

I'm interested in seeing if Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors have an impact on unit sales. I think that will be a good indicator that Japan is interested but needs a little more to push it over the edge.

With the current Wii U post-mk8 numbers, i'd say no, it's not possible. It'll still do "enough", but that's it. Neither dead or saved i supposed.

Success for the Vita sales in Japan is a big word ... not as bad as once is a more matching term.

But it is obvious that Sony already abandoned this Handheld. So this late sales peak will not do much. To little to late.

Nintendo has obviously the plan to support the Wii U with new games, despit the low sales. Will be in interesting how this turns out for the Wii U and Nintendo.

Sony's turnaround of Vita in Japan is almost the polar opposite of what Nintendo are going for with WiiU.

Vita started doing better in sales due to a slew of mid-tier games; accompanying price cut and later remodel. Many of the mid-tier games have been provided by third parties.

WiiU is betting on a few "big" games righting the ship. All of these games are going to be first party.

Vita's sales still aren't actually that impressive, all things considered. The only reason I find them passable is because the console is still lacking any "big" IP, aside from Final Fantasy & Persona remasters and arguably a multi-plat God Eater.

I believe people are comparing previous low sales of the Wii U in western markets to the success of the Vita in Japan. The problem with this comparison is that the Wii U is the highest selling console in Japan.

Sony has certainly abandoned the Vita. It's success in Japan will most likely be temporary, but we'll see.

Vita is save in Japan... but if sell 3,000 in NA and 5,000 in Europe... no, the sales in Japan not enough.

Vita have sold 40,000 in Japan last week...

And globally have sold less of Wii U, because it was thrust by the America and Europe...

Wii U is consistently outselling Vita worldwide, so it doesnt really matter.

Temporary? Not likely. Third parties see it sells games in japan, like the psp before it.

Right. Just like the PSP before it. This isn't something we haven't seen before.
