Forums - Sales Discussion - Global HW/SW 19 July (Updated with full charts)

It's incredible how the Ps4 is selling hardware way above the others but is a different matter software wise. I think it's great software sells this much across the three platform.

If these charts tell the truth, Watch Dogs on X1 is virtualy non existent. People buy in drove the PS4, 360 and PS3 versions but not the X1 version... Titanfall keeps selling (so much for a game no one care about anymore) and Minecraft... wow at Minecraft.

Globally the PS4's weekly software lead has been similar to its install base lead. It does have a slightly lower overall attach ratio, but that seems to have started normalizing recently.

Last week for example the PS4 sold 305k pieces of software on a 8.6m install base, while the X1 sold 156k on a 4.9m install base. For the week before that it was 383k vs 202k.

The software ratio is pretty much what you'd expect right now. It goes up and down in favor of each console (especially with major launches, extra so if exclusive), but that's also expected.

Thanks for the clarifications, on these charts it's hard to tell. This fall games will put a little more life in consoles. I think console makers should find a way to spur interest in gaming during the summer.

It looks like Wii U ahead of Xbox One is a trend until Destiny launches. lol

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

No problem ^^ Looking at region specific numbers can paint an odd picture without considering the install bases (and recent weekly trends), so it's a common mistake. I've made it too

And i agree, the summer has a lot more potential than developers/console markers often credit it with. Sure, the summer is an off peak sales period so the overall number of opportunities is smaller, but it's such a barren wasteland that you can release games almost competition free. TLOU and WD are some notable examples of how well that can go (both for the game and hardware sales).

Great numbers for Ps4 and WiiU/X1 holding pretty well. I could live with this kind of relative sales (Ps4 =WiiU+X1 and WiiU=X1.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

So does this prove that the price is NOT the only reason the PS4 is selling better than X1, because I seem to recall a lot of people saying that it was just price that put PS4 in the lead (which is quite silly)
