Forums - Sales Discussion - This new found certainty of Nintendo fans that the Wii U will end up 2. is kinda unfounded

Do you think the Wii U will finish second this gen?

The wii u will be second because is the perfect complement to a ps4. Nobody is going to get a ps4 and x1 they have almost the exact library. X1 pluss wii u is also another great combination. And since more people seeme to prefer the ps4 over the x1 both the ps4 and wii u will have a bigger increase than the ps4.

This gen like the last, we have seen an uprise on people who own multiple consoles. So I dont think any console will fail and all will sell good, ps4 will still dominate no questions asked. The wii u will do better than the x1 because is the best side console, and some think is a great primary console, while the x1 is not even considered as a side console, and more people prefer the ps4 over it as a primary console.

It`s not a question of how many, but how great they are.

Nintendo has already a really good line-up for 2015 but it doesn`t have - at least, so far - games like Halo or Gears of War. And those are the games that gamers seem to want now.

nintendo has no casual shooter thats right, but thats a dieing genre, all series are in decline.

Some franchises might be declining, but Destiny seems to be going for really big numbers.

Btw, i only mentioned shooters but i didn`t want to imply that shooters are the main genre. By the look of things, open world games seem to be the hit genre.
Still, halo and gears of war are still huge franchises that can really push HW.

destiny will push tons of ps4s. but very little xbone.  and the hit are still ASSFAGGOTS, aka. MOBA.  but they are small on consoles atm.

nintendo should made a smash moba, but without the A characters.

Read what I wrote. X1 from Jan 4th 2014 to July 12th 2014: 1.8m. Wii U from Jan 5th 2013 to July 13th 2013: 0.89m

2 to 1.

 jan july is the interval>...so 1.3 wii u 1.8 xbone(2014)!comparing different years...is this right?its not!

Why should it not be right? I aligned the launches, people do that all the time, because logically one can assume that the product that entered the market a year later is also going to stay on it for a year longer.

2nd Year is Always Better than the First excluding the WiiU with the 2nd holiday which is the majority of the entire year.  THis is primarily bcause pricing, deals, and a stronger library.  THat is like saying Xbox's full potntial is at full swing without Gears, Halo, Fable, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break etc

If WiiU's is having a big swing with 60k with Mario Kart, Mario 3D Land, DKC, etc and still is only averaging roughly the sam as a console that has none of its big hitters out besides TitanFall and Forza, then no that isnt promising. Its nice to see the wiiu doing better now but from a perspective based off trends the xbox one is in a much healthier position, not even in its 2nd holiday

2nd yar is btter than first, and 3rd is better than 2nd etc

BC is a big plus point 2 for wii u as secoundary console.   so many good games that u can pick up cheap, plus cheap used wiimotes+gc controllers.

jan-jun wii u 1.2 xbone 1.7 translates to... outsold by about 2to1...?ok you want wii u to be third, we knew that:Palso some sony gamers hinting that wii u will be second...i m a nintendo fan but my estimates are objective!

It seems tak13 is taking his data from this page: http://www.vgchartz.com/yearly/2014/Global/

Where are you taking yours?

Edit: Sorry, didn't notice the different years.

Signature goes here!

People have to remember that the xbox $400 -$500 so there is so much room for cutting price. Plus it will last longer on the market than the wiiu. Wiiu's successor will be out in 3 maybe 4 years. Xbox has got at least an additional year on that.

oh, in my opinion:Pbecause it s not straightway competition!why not comparing the same period wii u -xbone that are opposite

The way I have always seen it, is that for the XB1 to outsell the wiiU it must mean that its selling just as good as the PS4. Not necessarily better, but just as good. My reasoning is because they compete in the same space, over 90% of the games on the XB1/PS4 are identical (barring exclusive dlc or content here or there).

If the XB1 doesn't sell well at all because the PS4 is selling very well and cannibalizing its sales, then that automatically means that majority of the people that would have bought an XB1 are buying the PS4. Its too early to say for certain if that is exactly what is happening now even if the PS4 is comprehensively outselling the XB1.

Now the situation seems to be that the XB1 is settling for second place. Since so far every salvo it has thrown the PS4s way has failed. Its now a case of "well its not selling as well as the PS4 but its at least selling better than the wiiU". While in a manner of speaking that may seem to be true, its not really the case right now anymore, but again... too early to tell.

But the problem is, if the XB1 is really now competing with the wiiU, then that competition would be on the merits of its exclusives. Pretty much in the same world the wiiU operates. And if that is the case, then it becomes a simple question of if Gears and Halo is enough to make the XB1 outpace the wiiU even at a higher price point. Looks like the 6th generation all over again. Way I figure it, is that there won't be more than a 6-10M gap between the wiiU and XB1 regardless of who wins who.

In conclusion, I think its premature for the nintendo guys to assume that they are guaranteed second place. Just too early to tell. They should at least wait until Halo is released on the XB1 and they have ZeldaU on the wiiU and see how sales go then. But I can see their reasoning and it makes its own kinda sense.

of course i  have wrote it in a thread<<to be fair we have to wait halo...>>mk8 doubled wii u sales,so cant we be optimistic?:P(halo isnt attracting only usa audience?)
