And it also to a degree reminds me of last gens 360 vs PS3, where PS3 fans would constantly point out how launches aligned the PS3 was always ahead.

This is also and to a much clearer degree the case with the Wii U vs X1, just look at it:

  Wii U Xbox One
07.13.2013/07.12.2014 3,248,267 4,906,728

It's not even close.

In the first half of 2014 the X1 has outsold the first half of 2013 for the Wii U by about 2 to 1 and now people jump to the conclusions that the Wii U will be second because the Wii U (second year) is slightly outselling the X1 (first year) for a couple weeks, while still being clearly behind overall in 2014?

Come on, I think we should know better than that.

jan-jun wii u 1.2 xbone 1.7 translates to... outsold by about 2to1...?ok you want wii u to be third, we knew that:Palso some sony gamers hinting that wii u will be second...i m a nintendo fan but my estimates are objective!

I don't think I've seen certainty, I've seen optimism and to be fair Nintendo fans haven't had much cause to be optimistic in the past 18 months. Let them enjoy it. It seemed an almost a foregone conclusion just 9 months ago that both the PS4 and XB1 would steamroll passed the WiiU.

I think the source of the current optimism is momentum. Wii U seems to be gaining, some, whereas the XB1 seems to have lost momentum and for now I'm struggling to see how's it's going to regain it against the PS4.

Nintendo has started to do some things right with the WiiU but regardless they need to at least maintain and preferrably build on the current sales momentum if they want to have any chance of remaining in second and turning a reasonable profit on the system.

Wii U is going through it`s best phase so far (out of holidays), but XB1 isn`t doing that bad. Yes, it`s not doing as well as the PS4, but by itself it has been doing well for a product that up until recently was selling for 500$ and started with a really bad reputation.

All things considered, it`s too early to tell how things will end.
Last generation, in 2007/8, Wii was going for undisputed dominance and PS3 would end up dead last. But somehow things changed.
Wii U could end up doing even better than expected and XB1 might end up having the better games in the years to come, thus, coming out as the better consoles for the best games.

m$ will not buy so much exclusives to beat nintendo.

It`s not a question of how many, but how great they are.

Nintendo has already a really good line-up for 2015 but it doesn`t have - at least, so far - games like Halo or Gears of War. And those are the games that gamers seem to want now.

nintendo has no casual shooter thats right, but thats a dieing genre, all series are in decline.

Keyword: GAMES

hope 4 majora remake :D

Actually Playstation 4 will be second, right under the 3DS.

I don't get it either. I'm standing by my prediction of Xbone outselling the Wii U by the end of 2014 or the beginning of 2015 (meaning the first 3 months of 2015)

I still think momentum's well in the One's favor, though The Last Starfighter makes a good point.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Read what I wrote. X1 from Jan 4th 2014 to July 12th 2014: 1.8m. Wii U from Jan 5th 2013 to July 13th 2013: 0.89m

2 to 1.

Some franchises might be declining, but Destiny seems to be going for really big numbers.

Btw, i only mentioned shooters but i didn`t want to imply that shooters are the main genre. By the look of things, open world games seem to be the hit genre.
Still, halo and gears of war are still huge franchises that can really push HW.
