But see, I expect to see ads on the store, since that's all about buying stuff. I don't like to see ads as soon as I boot up my console and go to select a game. I would rather have all my content showing there, rather than content Microsoft want me to buy.

My best friend has a 360 and whenever I go over his house I always get a chuckle out of seeing the ads on the dashboard. We talked about it the last time I was over and he said though he doesn't mind them to much he doesn't like that he bought the console and is paying for online and yet still gets ads.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

My first 360 was offline for years. Never connected it to live. Then I bought the 360 E model and it came with a month free of Live Gold. I tested it out, and the FIRST thing I noticed was the ads. I couldn't believe that they would put that stuff on paying subscribers home screens. Not just ads for games, but stuff way off base like political garbage. That was my first and only month with Gold.

Ads on pay services aren't that unusual. Hulu Plus has ads you're forced to wait for. Pay television services has ads. Sirius XM has commerical breaks. I could give more examples.

I don't mind the Xbox ads because I don't have to wait for them. I generally just go straight to my game. But hey, I'm just thinking logically.

Also, you say they put political garbage? I recall them posting ads about debates and stuff like that which is fine. They aren't pushing any political agendas.

All those examples you give are for subscription based services (none of which I ever subscribed to). And if I did, and they had ads, I wouldn't continue with them. I do subscribe to Netflix, and have no ads. We are talking about a personal device. I'm guessing you'd be fine with ads on the main screen of your smartphone or on the desktop of your computer? Just thinking logically here...

FWIW, anything political is an agenda. I avoid politics like the plague.

Well actually, we dont have cable anymore and we didnt have it for the past 7 years cause of the ads... And we both know that Transit isn't even remotely the samething as owning a device and neither is a Soccer ticket. And yes, Ads do down grade the cable experience? Who the hell wants to wait 3-5 minutes of ads while watching a show, specially during suspense... Granted I don't own and xbox (and this type of a reason is exactly why) but I sure as hell wouldnt like ads at all on my ps3 or wiiU...

Apples and oranges.

TV ads interrupt your program and it can be nuisance watching the same 30 second ads over and over with the same stupid jokes. On Xbox you aren't waiting for ads to finish before you can play a game.

I honestly never hear people complain about the ads outside of the internet. To the contrary, everybody hates TV ads.

I understand, I just find them all a little annoying. Would be nice if paying customers didn't have to deal with any ads but it's not that big of a deal to me.

Oh I agree. Ads in general are really annoying, especially when you are a paying customer, as you mentioned. It's just worse when it is blatantly in your face like here. At least sometimes on the Store I'll see ads for sales, and get interested. On the homescreen, I have no reason for a political debate ad or an ad for a random movie I will never watch.

I am not comparing TV ads to Xbox Ads, I am just saying they downgrade the cable experience... My second paragraph was more to do with why I don't want ads on my device than that paragraph lolll. Sorry for the confusion

Oh and when I said "this type of a reason is exactly why" I was referring to having ads on a paid device and not cause they pause or inturrpt the game experience

You keep mentioning TV ads, but the scenario is very different in gaming. With TV, you pay Comcast/TW/whoever to provide the cable, but you don't directly pay the channels like ABC/NBC/CBS/etc. Those channels only make money through ads, you only pay to have a company push the service to you.

With Xbox, Microsoft is a huge multibillion dollar company, that is already making a nice profit from Xbox Live sales and software sales. They don't need to give ads to make money, but they do anyway, even for paying customers.

360 was bad but the one is fine any ad I've seen on it is either for a game or something I can don't on the one. Unlike the ps4 which has a slim Jim ad

Never seen that one, never even heard about it. I know there was some promo, but I haven't seen it advertised on the home screen.

From what I can tell, the One has a "Recommended" section, which is smaller than the 360 ads, but still pushes you three tiles which have nothing to do with your own content.
