Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does the new miiverse update pretty much prove Nintendo is putting out a gamepadless Wii U this Christmas?

Are you mad? Amiibos work thanks to the Gamepad.

I doubt it. They probably have a million wii u's or more sitting in a warehouse with a contract to produce more still in place.

Why can't I navigate it with the Pro controller too? Wtf Nintendo!?

There is nothing wrong at all with the Gamepad. If Sony or Microsoft had released the same thing people would just be talking about how much better their gamepad was. People just like to bash Nintendo and their decisions. Every WiiU owner (who is truly a fan of Nintendo and not just an addict buying corporate products) loves the gamepad. Even my friends who come over to play on the WiiU are surprised at how cool it is and enjoy all the options it provides.

And let's get one thing straight: The gamepad is NOT the reason that Nintendo's system isn't selling well. There has been a strong distaste for Nintendo products in the mainstream/hardcore gaming community since the PS1 was release, and was only exacerbated with the release of the XBox. The Wii was a success because they moved past those gamers and focused on people who hadn't had a lot of experience with dedicated gaming machines. Nintendo is performing just as they have been for the past 3 cycles, removing the anomalous Wii sales that were essentially tickle me elmo dolls.

Nintendo does not need a revision. They need to continue supporting their platform with integrity, delivering on the experiences they promised us when they launched the system. I do believe by the end of this generation they will have.

The main problem for this is that in some games, you need the gamepad like W101 where some actions only appear through the second screen.

It would split the base between suer who can play all games and others who can't. And there is nothing on the box of older games indicating if gamepadless customers could buy it.

While it would allo great pricing at less than 200$, it may create more confusion. That's sad because if Nintendo had not used the gamepad at all, the Wii U would have probably been over 10 millions at this point.

Proof for this?  Without the Gamepad, people would ask, why should we get a new system.  HD would not be enough.  More power wouldn't be enough, either.  Nintendo is not the system people buy for Multiplats or amazing graphics.  You can't change that with one hardware release.  The sales simply support your own feelings about the machine.

Amiibo counters any evidence people can come up with and more...this is just a usability thing

The Wii U would have been at least 100$ cheapest, and price count for Nintendo consoles.

Wii and GC were priced lower at launch and Wii U was priced quite high (350$ for the main model). Without the gamepad, the Wii U would be priced at 200$ with a game now.  The gamepad wasn't worth it (speaking in term of sales).

No, first of all because Nintendo in its financial meetings mentioned that they want to increase the appeal of the Gameapad, dropping it wouldn't help.

The introduction of amiibo is another proof.

Games that use extensively the Gamepad in 2015 and beyond.

Minor things like the Pikmin 3 update, where you can finally use the touchscreen to control the Pikmin.

Conclusion: Nintendo won't drop the Gamepad.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.
