OP asks: "(No, not you the completely detached from reality fan)"
Most of the replies are from completely detached from reality fans. Hahahaha gotta love the web.

About the fear of nintendo giving up on launch another console, i don't know, the heads of the company are more developers than bussiness mans, so there is a big chance that they keep trying, even if the market analysts keeps saying STAHP. But, iwata actually hinted that they almost give up on the the project prior to the launch.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

Cartridge based consoles are easier to emulate than disc based consoles. You need quite a lot of power to emulate a different architecture

I love the WiiU and I consider myself quite attached to reality. Is that ok? I love Nintendo games - their genius is second to no one. There qualuty is second to no one. They are the last true game company, since Sega bowed out, that makes hardware. They are the last standing patriach of video games. They helped blaze the trail. Own an Xbox One or PS4, but you should have nestled next it the box that brings Mario magic.

Why not buy a PSVita instead?

I like it, it's a good system --probably the best nintendo console since the SNES. The gaming landscape has changed, people like bad games and developers just keep shoveling them out. If it weren't for Nintendo and a few select developers I would lose all interest in gaming. Admittedly the Wii U has a bad name and poor marketing -but the consumers also have an appetite for garbage which is why terrible music, movies, and fast food are all so popular.

Im am very much in this world as far as reality goes, and Wii U is not only my favourite Nintendo system, but one of the best systems ive played in my 30 years of gaming. I love it, you basically have access to the best of virtually every Nintendo system on one device. I mean, being able to play Wii U, GBA, DS, NES, SNES and Wii games on one device is cool. The gamepad is fantastic, and when not used for gaming it becomes a very handy tablet for browsing and streaming movies etc, off tv/remote play is sooo handy too. Wii U exclusives are top notch, and im not just talking first party either..stuff like Zombi U, Lego City and Wonderful 101 are a breath of fresh air and i know im going to adore Hrule Warriors and Devils Third etc. Each to their own i guess.

The Wii U won't be emulated, it's too powerfull a Power PC machine to decently emulate, look at the Xbox 360 and PS3, emulatipn there is near nonexistant

Agreed. And why would anyone not want to use the Wii u tablet, controller when playing games especially first party titles.

You clearly have no idea how emulation works do you?

It's not about the architecture (altough Power PC is ooollldd, reaally ooolllddd), it's about how complex the hardware and software work, and the less powerful the console, the easier it is to replicate and emulate.

In fact, Dolphin emulate Gamecube and Wii (which are disc based) so well and have for a few years, that they've already been advancing on emulation. We're talking about a minimum of 1,5 year and a max of 3 years to get PCs to emulate Wii U. Xbox 360 and PS3 are further off but not that much considering.
