Forums - Sales Discussion - So I was looking at Watch Dogs Sales and.....

Do you think Watch Dogs can sell 350k on Wii U its first week?

Yes 45 28.66%

No! Ninty Fanboys only buy first parties! 110 70.06%

Total:155

Watch dogs had been bleeding interest/hype since it failed to meet the launch window. I think it has actually exceeded my expectations for sales, and im sure ubisoft isnt complaining...

It is going to flop.
1) Delayed too long
2) Game was a letdown
3) Those who would want to play it probably already have
4) Wii U version not going to be as good as XB1 or PS4 or PC
5) Ubisoft (3rd party or not) doesn't deserve our money for the way they treating Wii U as less than even PS3 or 360

No, it'll be lucky to sell 350k LTD. The delay kill it.

Indeed and it's a shame that this pattern of "shoot yourself in the foot then blame Nintendo's fanbase" has become a thing.

350k first week?! I think it will sell that much lifetime.

You're saying 1m on a console that has 5m sold is a bad thing? Come on.

But honestly, if it was what it was portrayed to be then it would have sold more.

thats what happens when you market the game exclusively for one system the other systems dont do as well

Unfortunately it's going to bomb on the Wii U. If the Wii U SKU had released at the same time as the others it would have done okay thanks to the GamePad features if they had marketed it properly. Due to it being a Ubisoft game you'll see the other versions being around £14.99 by the time the Wii U version comes out at full price and there'll be bugger all marketing for it to speak of.

Namco Bandai/Slightly Mad Studios are going to see a similar sort of thing happen with Project CARS too, except that the PC, PS4 and Xbox One SKUs aren't going to sell well at launch to start with - they're releasing the game in November competing against the likes of CoD, GTA V, Assassin's Creed Unity, FIFA 15, Halo, Forza, DriveClub and The Crew.

So not only are they going to be competing against the biggest selling franchises in video game history, they're also competing against three driving/racing sims too. They would have been better off releasing the game early next year when there isn't so much competition, if I'd had invested in this game with an idea of garnering a share of the profits I'd be a bit pissed off with the release date.

And as for the difference in sales between the PS4 SKU and the Xbox One SKU you're going to see plenty of publishers taking notice, you might even see the Xbox One struggling to get third party support during the next year or two. The majority of people refuse to see how much trouble the Xbox One is in, I'm convinced it's overtracked on here...you won't find more than 4.6m Xbox Ones in homes worldwide. Microsoft's silence on sales is speaking volumes. In fact, it's not too far away from being as much as a flop as the Wii U was when it first launched. Both consoles did over 3m during their launch periods and both consoles' sales dropped off a cliff going into the launch window and beyond. This time last year the Wii U had sold something like 3.5m (please correct me if I'm mistaken, I'm going off my memory here so I will stand to be corrected!). So there's not much difference between the sales of both consoles, launches aligned.

Whenever I mention on forums that the Xbox One has been a flop so far people think I'm trolling or insane, but it's only been doing 'okay' in the US so far and has been an unmitigated flop in Europe. It's in trouble, but for some reason the gaming media aren't picking up on it at all.

The worst thing is that Microsoft don't have anywhere near enough system selling IPs to shift consoles - Gears, Halo and Forza. And that's pretty much it. Halo is coming before Christmas, as is a second Forza game. And that leaves Gears of War. It really isn't looking good tbh.

I would love to understand why you think watch_dogs would do 350 FW. That's not happening.

I would be really surprised if WatchDogs on WiiU manages to sell 500k LTD.
350k LTD is much more likely than 350k first week.

Lets say 60k-80k first week, 180-200k untill end of the year, 250-300k LTD.
Why should anybody wait for a poor port (i assume it will be one) when he can already play the game on another console right now?
Why should anybody buy a 59€/$ game for WiiU, which he can buy for 19-29 on PS4/XOne or PS3/X360?
I think it is the absolute minority of the people, who own ONLY WiiU and neiter PS3/PS4 nor X360/XOne.
And from these take only the people, who are interested in open world action games.
This is the audience for the WiiU-Version of Watch Dogs and these are for sure not even 500k people!

Even if it is a good quality port, it will experience the same trouble as NFS:MW on WiiU.
Its half a year late and nobody then cares about it anymore.

But there is also one "good" thing about it:
It allows Ubisoft to complain that games do not sell on WiiU even if they put some extra effort into it.
And for sure they will complain!

EDIT:

Oh, i forgot one thing by the way ... Ubisoft will never never ever make extra advertisements for the WiiU-Version of Watchdogs!
