Forums - Gaming Discussion - Has Final Fantasy Type 0 pushed FFXV beyond a 2015 release date?

Alot of us were hugely dissapointed when Square announced that Final Fantasy XV wouldn't be at E3 2014, the game finally felt like it was on track and nearing a reasonable target date when Square showed the gameplay blowout 13 months ago. So much was shown some even speculated a fall 2014, especially given its lengthy dev cycle which proceeded the reveal. How do you go from this one year, to nothing the next?

We have virtual no information Final Fantasy Type 0 HD other then the fact that its coming to Xbox One and PS4, so we don't know when its coming out or what team is handleing its development. Is it likely XV has been put on hold to remake Type 0 on PS4/XO? If so, how would you feel about it?

I think tehy're uncomfortable with the PS4/XO install base, especially in Japan, so they want to release XV in 2016 when the two systems will probably be between 40-60m combined. In the meantime they'll release Type 0 HD which could probably be profitable with only 1m in sales.

Why isnt FFT0 coming to the WiiU?

Seems like a missed opportunity...

First I highly doubt they've put FF XV on hold for Type O HD. I don't think it takes much effort for devs to remaster games to HD. Like Naughty Dog said they've had 30 people work on The Last of Us Remastered and Tetsuya Nomura even said that the devs working on KH 2.5 HD doesn't hinder the process of KH III. So I don't think FF XV is on hold.

My guess is that FF Type 0 HD will come out next year. It'll take for them to record everything in english and translate.

With regards to FF XV, the moment it was said by Square Enix before E3 2014 that FF XV wouldn't be at this year's E3, confirmed by guess that it won't come out till 2016.

This is how I see it's timeline:
TGS 2014 will see more info for FF XV. A new trailer.
2015 is the year they'll start the full hype train.
E3 2015 will have a good showing. Announce a release window of Spring 2016.
TGS 2015 will be the biggest showing and hype of FF XV. Narrow down to a full release date. My guess is March 2016 lol.

I just think there's no way Square Enix can release this game anytime after 2016 when they unvealed full running gameplay of it on PS4 at E3 2013. The timeline of this game's life has already been hugely absurd, but releasing after 2016 is literally too much. As a long time fan and as a person who has wanted a Final Fantasy game like XV for the longest time (it's like a dream game for me), I want this game to be out as quickly as possible but 2016 is realistic.

As a even bigger Kingdom Hearts fan, I predict KH III will release either in LATE 2016 or Spring 2017.

This is just like waiting for Batman V Superman for me haha. The wait is unreal!

This is far more then a simple remaster like Uncharted or Kingdom Hearts. It might as well be considered a remake akin to Ocarina of time 3DS, which required a whole dev team. You can't just throw PSP assets onto the PS4 and get the difference shown below.  Also I agree with you on KH3, no way its coming before fall 2016.

I still hope for a fall 2015 release with a new trailer at TGS this year.

Nope.. SE is just hoping that Smarthphones and tablets by then are strong enough to run FFXV...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Sometimes I question the management of SquEnix lately. They know main series titles sell more than any other yet they aren't making them. FF16 and 17 should be in development, even if the latter is pre-production.

If FF15 is not delivered in the calendar year of 2015, not the financial year, SquEnix will have a huge backlash from fans again. (seriously 1 main non online title in 7 years, 2 in 12).

But I guess they have their priorities. Their mobile vision of the future. :P

Hmm, pie.

Probably right about that. So then Square Enix must have a different set of devs working on it. Square Enix has said that FF XV is full development right now. Doubt they'll say that last year and this year and then go yeah guys we're gonna stop FF XV for the time being for an HD remaster.

I'll update the OP with my opinions on this, but maybe they thought it would make more sense to work this first whilst the PS4/XO still have a userbase below 20m (its not as big of an invetsment- it doesn't have to sell 5m to make its money back),then aim to release FFXV when the systems are 30m+

Or it could just be that XV was always gonna take this long but I'm suspicious, especially since we don't know who is developing Type 0 HD.
