Console gaming easier than PC AMIRITE?!

Seriously though, many PC games don't require 50gigs to install...more like 15. And that's pushing it. These devs are just too lazy to compress their files.

The hard drive manufacturers be like... Look out boys, we are about to be super rich!

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

The install time is more important than the install size. Sure you can probably only store 8 games on the standard hdd before you need to uninstall something, but if it's like killzone and you can start playing within 30 seconds of putting the disc in then what's the problem? I'd rather that than a 5gb install that takes 5 minutes. It really comes down to how well they've implemented the streaming install for this game, with killzone (similar size game) it was really good so I have high hopes ND can do the same.

Sweet mother of God...
Need to learn where to manage space on the PS4. Only games I have are Knack, Killzone, and Infmous, but they are all disc versions.

Every PS4 game doesn't need 50GB to install. But every PS4 game installs and runs off the HDD/SSD. The disc is pretty much just a distribution package and security checker. Why? Transfer speeds.

  • PS4 uses SATA 2 interface. 300MB/s Max
  • 5400rpm HDD 90MB/s Max (68MB/s average) or you can put in an
  • SSD 300MB/s Effective. SSDs are much faster than this but limited by the SATA 2 interface. Beats using
  • BD-Drive x6 27MB/s

From the Twitch user, Jgdogg, who managed to get the game really early, installing the game only takes 55 seconds. So while 50 GB is a ****ton, 55 seconds is really good considering the amount of data you have to install into the harddrive.

I don't see the problem. The game is huge, and with all the extras it was expected from the start. ND has already stated that they barely fit it on a disc.
If you buy a disc, it's a non-issue, it installs in a minute.
If you buy digitally, it will take a while longer, but still, it's not like anybody plays 15 games at the same time, just delete the superfluous games, you can always redownload them.

I am getting it digitally, I came to this gen prepared, installed a 1TB drive, and 50GB doesn't really take that long for me to download.

When it comes to PS4 games getting to this size physical or not, even that 400 GB of available space isn't going to do you much good... you can only store 7 games TLOU's size before uninstalling or buying extra room.

But it's easy to let data take up space, I mean it's not like they're really trying to compress files and give you the most efficient space using game possible. They're only looking to make it fit on the disc, that's all they need. I think we'll see a lot of this "maxing the dual layer blu-ray at 50 GB" from AAA titles.

This isn't a console-only issue. I download Wolfenstein on Steam last week and that required around 50GB of free space :/ File sizes in general having been growing pretty huge (AC4, Ghosts, Wolfenstein, WD and TF being some recent examples).

To be honest this just makes consoles seem even more appealing to the average consumer. Don't want to download a 20 to 50GB file? Cool, pop to the shop and get a hard copy. Takes less than a minute before you can start playing while it installs in the background. Also makes managing your HDD a lot simpler. The ease of install games from the disk makes deleting not presently needed files a pretty easy decision.

I'll still be getting all my multi-plats on PC though :p Yay for a decent internet connection.

(I'm not justify these download sizes by the way, it's annoying as hell. Unfortunately it's something we're all probably going to have to live with).
