Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Wii U beating Xbox One even after price drop! What happened to the 360 fans?

Snoorlax said:

Of course not.

Microsoft did some things right with the original Xbox mostly Halo and online.

Then they improved with the 360 with it's comfortable controller, better online play, Gears of War, Forza and more Halo. Xbox Live was greedy imo but i guess that and RROD never seemed to bother 360 fanboys since they would just buy another Xbox and pay to play online.

Microsoft screwed up after it's DRM and always Kinect policies. Imagine if Sony came up with those policies you still think PS4 would be selling twice as much as Xbone?

I think a lot of the time, we think that the internet=real life but it just isn't true. The average Joe who made the PS4 what it is right now doesn't know anything about what happened last year with the DRM mess. They just bought what their friends say to buy etc.

This is why the 360 was king in the US. It was the "it" console. Now the "it" console is PS4.

They went to tablets and phones.

Well like some have said, US userbase is the most disloyal group. Even with the almost 200m PS2 sold WW, new generation of gamers did not have the same level of loyalty to the system. 360 was first to the market and was leaps and bounds better in tech than PS2, PS3 would be a year off at at an unheard of price point. Those who early adopt usually set the trend for the rest of the generation. After the first year you got a 360 because thats what all your friends already had, even if you grew up on PS. It took Sony years to repair that damage.

Basically you can't be both...
-Last to the Party
-Highest price point.

...and still expect everyone to flock to you. PS3 only survived partially due to brand recognition, and later could stand on it's own merit. US cares more about getting the cheapest alternative to the best tech. PS3 was more powerful but more costly. It wasn't until later that the truth about the 360 being "cheaper" really came to light. Once it did we started to see the change.

Sony said all the right things at a time when Microsoft did the exact opposite. PS4's price was right AND it has the superior hardware. Not to mention a much more tenured pedigree in the business, Sony pretty much had this generation on lock. Sure, MS has rectified many of gamer's squabbles but now what saved them in 360 era will be their undoing.
- Most already have PS4.....so all their Monkey See Monkey Do friends will follow suit.Like the 360, PS4 is easier to develop for and has the market's full attention so every developer wants to align themselves with them.
-Also MS's moneyhatting tactic is failing them as now they are being asked to pay outrageous sums because its no longer a no brainer to align with xbox, its a detriment, just as it was for PS3 early on.
- Even if they can wrangle an exclusive this way, it will be timed and the market has caught on to this. Exclusive COD Ghost content didn't stop PS4 version outselling XBO 2:1. And everyone here pretty much knows Titanfall is coming to PS4 at some point, with the developers not even fully committing to the idea they were exclusive in the first place.

There would need to be something drastic to change the market from where it is heading now. XBO would need to be $100 less than PS4 and stop losing games to PS4 appeal to many as a smart buy.

Its a snowball effect, which all started at one point. MS's DRM policy. They thought no one would notice or care. They had reason to believe so, because people still have no clue how they are being raped by Facebook,Google and Apple and their Data Farming. But via a few correctly timed "rumors", the spotlight was shined on this fact and there was nowhere for MS to run. They tried evading the questions but that made it worse. Its just been one bad news after another ever since.

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

you don't buy a console that has games that can be played on previous gen consoles. now if it had BC I would get why but not without. it has no big exclusives so why bother

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

The big guns aren't out for the X1 yet. Titanfall was multi platform and the X1 hasn't seen any great exclusive content since near launch of the X1.

Edit: PVZ Garden Warfare was the biggest release this year outside of Titanfall and ended up going multiplatform, and was already on the 360 as well much like Titanfall.

I think the picture will be different once Sunset Overdrive and Halo Collection are both out. MS did kinda shoot themselves in the foot making Forza Horizon 2 on the 360, yet at the same time they probably didn't want to feel the wrath of 360 only owners complaining about no major first party 360 titles releasing in 2014. I'd imagine the 360 gets a cross gen title in 2015 as well.

TDLR - X1 has no games meme.

It's just that simple.

Well the reason probably is because 360 owners dont wanna miss out the upcoming games coming soon for the 360. There are actually a lot of games still in development and upgrading to XBone is just not the right time as it does not have much games. Well, we'll wait and see :3

The majority of the Wii fans who jumped on the gaming bandwagon were not actual gamers. They were just enjoying the fad.

The thing you don't realize is that a lot of people who enjoyed games on the Wii enjoyed similar games on the PS2.

For some reason you prefer to ignore that and just brush off the Wii as a fad.

It's pure bias.

This isn't bias but rather a fact that you conveniently seem to ignore. Nintendo won the gen, but off of the backs of people who don't really care about gaming. They dumbed it down just enough for them to grasp gaming in passing and then throw it out. The Nielsens recorded more hours of usage for the Gamecube than the Wii and it had almost 80 million gamers more. This means the majority..did not see the console fit to be playing all the time. Do not even compare the Wii to the PS2. Its library was a disgrace compared.

"Nielsens reveals actual Wii usage is terribly low"- 2009

The Xbox 360 was the console with the highest percentage of use, followed by the PS3, the original Xbox, the PS2, Nintendo's Gamecube, and finally the Wii. The study also shows that the Wii has more female gamers than the Xbox 360 and more than the 360 and PS3 combined.

"Nielsen's just released their anxiously awaited "State of the Video Gamer" report, and while it's a real page-turner, there aren't exactly any surprises in store for readers. Conducted in December of 2008, Nielsen investigated use of the three major consoles -- the Nintendo Wii, the Xbox 360, and the PS3. The study found that of those three, owners of the Xbox 360 got the most use out of their console -- an average of 11.4 percent of the time for the duration of the poll, while the PS3 came in a close second at 10.6 percent. The originalXbox followed directly behind that with 10.2 percent, while Wii owners gamed a sad 6.8 percent of the time... far less than that of even PS2 owners. The Wii also came in last place in terms of total days used during the poll, with an average of 5 days (PS3 and Xbox 360 users averaged 6.8 and 7.1, respectively). It doesn't matter!

The portion of PS2 gamers that played games like Guitar hero and Babiez type games were many on the Wii. We know that by virtue of the games that were bought on the PS2, many were for non-gamers...

Even if the PS2 owners logged a heavy amount of playtime, it's unknown which fragment of the immense 150M gaming population played that time, and which played casually.

I'm not ignoring anything you are misusing facts to fit an eschewed view.

No. I am not misusing facts. The Wii was a paper weight where most people enjoyed Wii Sports and then threw it away. Even during the years of its high sales it still recorded lower usage than consoles who sold half of what it sold or in other cases wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy less. As I said before, gamers seemed to have recieved more usage from the Gamecube. That is sad. Even Guitar Hero demanded more skill and had tournaments compared to a lot of the casual games on the Wii.

The PS2 had a stronger library from a more diverse group of developers who werent looking at the console as a quick cash grab. This is why you see so many cash grab games on the Wii in the first place. The intent wasnt exactly there to build a library off of quality because non-gamers and little kids wouldnt know the difference.

There are no good games yet. Mutliplatforms are on X360.
