I remember being a kid and having the old Sega vs Super Nintendo console wars. Lol back then the console wars seemed nothing to what they are today.

Why the hell are people so volatile about the console wars in today's day and age.   I personally think that the internet has a huge part in this and people seem to fly off their rocker when it come to expressing themselves online because there are no real consequences.  I know when I was a kid and if you got in a verbal arguement about what system was better you basically ended up laughing it off in the end.  But today people are going all out, yelling, screaming, fighting, making videos, etc.   It only a matter of time before someone gets killed IRL cause of it.   Maybe it's cause I was a kid and didn't see the big picture and didn't know a whole lot,  but I somehow doubt that.

When I was a kid, I had an n64, my friend had a playstation but we didnt hate each other for it... Instead, we went to each others houses and played the respective exclusives

I've had a few real life console wars. words like noob and peasant have been exchanged but we dont take it seriously at all.

The problem online is that you dont know the tone the person typing it would have if they were saying it.

They started it first!
I'm not sure who "they" is but someone did!

:o You mean you and your friend never tried to beat each other to death due to having different consoles?

Lolll nahh, but we did fight to the death after playing games like mario party! And then we helped each other figure out how to beat bosses in games like ffvii. Those were good times

I've had a little real life console war with a friend of mine regarding the WiiU. He was talking a lot if trash about the system, but he apologized after playing 3D World and Mario Kart 8..

Another effect of the internet is that it's harder to tell how serious people really are in these arguments, I cam guarantee you that aside from a select few nutjobs most people on the internet don't give a flying fuck about what other people think about consoles.

Fun fact: I'm sure some people on here view me as a Nintendo hater, does that mean that I can't stand Nintendo fans in real life? Not at all. Both my roommates are more or less Nintendo fans, one is of the opinion that the Wii was the only good console of last gen (aside from that he games on PC) and the other is a son of a huge Nintendo collector and loves Nintendo himself. Do I hate these two? No of course not, I don't care about their gaming preferences and sometimes *gasp* play Nintendo games with them.

Doesn't mean I can't be harsh on Nintendo from time to time.

lol the real option isn't even on there

Most Brutal was PS2 vs Dreamcast, Sony killed off Sega as a hardware manufacturer, and they managed to do it before the other 2 contenders for that generation could even launch.

The internet has made people into huge wusses. That is certainly part of the problem. So has Facebook.  I cancelled mine a year or 2 ago because I couldn't stand the bitching, and complaining, asshole mentality, insulting, political propaganda, picture's of people's meals etc. etc. and don't miss it even one little bit.

Honestly moreso than anything else though. is the sheer size of the gaming industry currently. There are so many more people gaming now than when SNES was up against Genesis. Like exponentially more people, so naturally you are going to have more arguing and assholes when you have a larger group.

Also, I think certain practices of modern gaming companies invoke more emotional responses out of people. It is different when you think back to when you could just read Nintendo power and PC gamer and go out and buy a complete game for NES or a 486. Now you constantly have to wonder if company XYZ is going to release something broken, with a huge Day 1 patch, with on-disc DLC, with a season pass, an online pass, pre-order bonuses that vary by store, use the public to beta test after the game comes out and try to tweak it, annualize said game, etc. etc. etc. I think a lot of these new practices piss people off and some of them let it get too excessive or decide to take it out on fellow gamers.

Also, entitlement. Yeah the entitlement among early 20's and younger people current days has carried over into everything. It isn't just gaming.  But you are not alone, there are gamers who buy whatever consoles they want be it all of them or none of them, and don't pledge fake allegiance to a corporation that does not care about them.

"Sega does what Nintendon't."

That was true console war. Today nobody is officially so offensive. Today the Internet is the battlefield and there are so many bad things on the Internet that we can't say it is that brutal. But what if the the Internet had been existed in that time....?

I don't hate Microsoft, I don't hate PC,
I don't prefer Sony, I don't prefer Nintendo.
...Ok, I love Nintendo but this is something about tolerance, ok?

I'm a gamer with one of the greatest hobbies and I want to share this greatness with everyone.
