Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do You Still Think Wii U Can Do 25 million??

GameCube only managed around 21 million if I am not mistaken.

It's still tracking a couple million below gamecube (even below dreamcast).

It is more underpowered and has less third party support than the GameCube had during its lifespan.

Its biggest game came out and it can only manage to do 60k in a week.

Almost all of its high selling franchises are already on the platform (just missing Smash Bros)

Smash Bros is also on 3DS.

Japan is a smaller market now than ever before.

The New Zelda is cartoon which most zelda fans dislike.

Will probably have a shorter lifespan than the GameCube due to it not being as powerful as the competition and being much cheaper.

Online lags far behind than the competition.

Nintendo so expect essentially zero advertising.

Wii U is being discontinued in some major retailers in the US just like Vita

I see no way the Wii U can outsell gamecube. If anything the Wii U will hit 17 million. What do you think?

did you read the forums people were praising it for its vast open world and beautiful art style

Bets:

(Won)Bet with TechoHobbit: He(Techno) says 10 million by January 1,2014 I say 9 million by then. Winner gets 2 weeks of sig control.

(Lost)Bet with kinisking: I say Ps4 will win April NPD while he says Xbox One will win it; winner gets 1 week of avatar control.

Raichu's First Series:

First RPG?

First Fighter?

First Racer?

First Shooter?

First MMO?

First Horror?

Yes.

Wii U will sell 40 million.

"Have sold less of GameCube"

Like XBOX 360 and PS3.

"Smash Bros coming also on 3DS"

Like Destiny will coming on 360, PS3, PS4, and maybe PC and Wii U.

Of course.

It will beat the GC by having a longer life.

25-30 millions seem the total it will reach. Nintendo will probably have a great holiday season with Smash Bros and the continued sales of Mario Kart 8. A price cut would also do wonders.

Wii U got better exclusives than GC and will probably have a longer life
At the end of 2015 there really should be no reason for a Nintendo fan to not have a Wii U :?

You have to realize that people love the cartoony art style these days as long as it is beautiful and HD. It won't sell as much as TP or OoT, but that is hard to top.

First, I'm getting a little tired of the rhetoric that "Wii U is underpowered". No, it isn't. It's definitely not as powerful as PS4 and Xbox One, but it's still plenty powerful. I have mine sitting proudly beside my PS4, and you know what? The Wii U gets a lot more play. Moreover, its best games are *drop dead gorgeous*. I don't care how you slice it, a game that is a) fun, b) beautiful and c) exclusive is all the reason anyone needs to buy the system. The age of "some consoles deliver ugly games" is *over*.

Second, while there's no denying the Wii U's first year was pretty rough, it's not the only console to ever have a rough first year. PS3, as you may recall, floundered around for ages before it finally picked up steam. That system didn't really get going until the slim launched almost 3 years later.

So yes, I DO think the Wii U can manage at least 25 million lifetime sales. What it's going to come down to is *games*. It already has the best library of any current generation console, and that's only growing, finally at a pace that's accelerating. Moreover, its recent sales spikes have extended its lead over Xbox One globally. If you want to worry a system might not reach 25 million, maybe you should start worrying about the one that's selling *least*.
