Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does the Musou genre really hurt a Zelda game? New HW characters announced

http://plebegaming.wordpress.com/2014/07/21/hyrule-warriors-does-the-musou-genre-really-hurt-zelda/

I don't really think it does. People may say the combat's boring, but I think they're blinded by their love of Zelda. You may plow through tons of fodder enemies now, but cutting octoroks and stalchilds before wasn't exactly a deep combat system either. I personally like how Koei Tecmo has included many of the staples of the Zelda franchise and used Warriors elements to undermine some of the more tired tropes.

For example, Queen Zelda is a f*ckin boss leading her troops in battle instead of the hapless princess you're used to saving. Puzzles for the most part seem to have been done away with, but that's fine because most puzzles in mainline Zeldas had devolved into "use new item here." There may not be as much exploration, but there are still secrets hidden throughout, and there were already starting to be restrictions on where you could go and which dungeons you tackled first anyway. You can't blame Hyrule Warriors for that.

Musou genre doesn't hurt any game :)

No. It's just great how there is a PROPER spinoff game!

Nope, in fact I think it makes it better!

I agree. I always craved more combat in Zelda games and I really think many others feel the same.

I'm pretty sure they've put higher standards on Hyrule Warriors than say Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper. Things that have marred other warriors games in terms of technical and game quality appear to have been addressed throroughly for Hyrule Warriors.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

No... Its just a spin off.
Did Links Cross Bow Training hurt the Zelda franchise? I dont think so.

I dont know what future holds. Warriors games are pretty boring. Hyrule warriors might damage Zelda like Philips CD-i zelda games. Spinoff or not it doesnt represent zelda awesomeness. Its like a high quality mod of a zelda game.

I didn't mean to make it sound like it hurts the franchse. I mean Musou wouldn't hurt a Zelda title. I think Zelda is a great fit for the Musou style personally.

Low depth combat has defined modern Zelda, and, really, historical Zelda (just that historical Zelda was low-depth combat at a higher intensity), so there's certainly nothing wrong in that dimension.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

There is literally no chance in hell of HW hurting the Zelda franchise like anything the pcdi games did. It would take concentrated effort to do that. They would have to only include the demo we've seen so far and then have the rest of the game as wire frame models. Even that may not be enough if they don't smear feces on each page of the instruction booklet.

I have genuine concern for it. No offense to nintedo guys; they have been waiting for a zelda game for a long time. But they shouldnt support a warriors type game which is not good and may ruin the series. For example, if sony makes a FPS baed on uncharted then I wont support it. Because it doesnt do justice the reputation uncharted has build over time.
