Extremely sad if true. I hope they can still work on a Ni No Kuni sequel, maybe Sony could chip in and incentivize them a little. ;)

Ghibli films are not like other animes (though Akira really isn't either), they've done some universally just very good movies.

Hey, wake up already! You have been in cryogenic sleep for two years and I've been trying to reach you since! Open your eyes, open your eyes...
Every film from them (apart from Tales of Earthsea maybe) has entered my favourite films of all time! There is nothing more magical than a Studio Ghibli film and if Hayao Miyazaki retires for real this time then surely someone like his son Goro can carry the magic on! I'm very hyped for 'When Marnie Was There' and 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya' and intend on seeing 'The Wind Rises' too
disney should buy them.
disney has the financial depth to weather an occasional flop for an otherwise amazing studio. they also no well how to merch a product for additional profitablility and ghibli has such a wealth of amazing characters. plus who wouldn't be excited for ghibli land at disney world!
anyways,. sad if true.
edit: actually no. they should put that into tokyo disneyland.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
They're my favorite animated studio.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
"There have been many questions concerning why famed animator Hayao Miyazaki is retiring." Him being 73 years old wasn't a good enough reason? :p
Anyway, i hope this rumor turns out to be false. Would be a big shame :/

Like Ghibli? No, there are not. Not even close, in fact. Feature length animation with the same kind of depth and quality is extremely rare. Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) is the only one I can think of making films near the same level.
