Forums - Sony Discussion - Nippon Ichi's summer greeting card appears to hint at Disgaea 5

They said that they were working with Disgaea 5 since before the PS4 launch, maybe that PS4 title is hyperdimension neptunia vii, but I don't remember if they said that was PS3 or PS4...

Neptunia VII is a Compile Heart title for PS4.  Nothing to do with NIS.

While it's true they were talking about it before PS4 launch, they may well have had dev kits for quite some time.

It's possible that the PS4 title they're working on isn't Disgaea.  But I find it pretty unlikely.

Wasn't NIS involved with Neptunia as well? Victory 1 has their logo: http://nisamerica.com/games/NeptuniaVictory/
Victory 2 haven't anything with them anymore?
Also, I would say it's possible to Disgaea devs have the PS4 dev kit, even with Disgaea not being such a blockbluster franchise.
They had 2 games on PS2 and already have 3 on PS3, it's time to move around indeed, but I'm totally sure PS3 can handle properly Disgaea 5 as it's not even close to be a high tech demmanding franchise.

Nippon Ichi Software America (the localization house) used to localize the Neptunia games, yes.  They didn't develop them though (and they're not going to be localizing any future titles I don't think, since Idea Factory International will be doing it themselves now).

Huh, never heard of it. But I love the idea of the teasing.

Yeah! i love Disgaea, haven't played D2 yet but i will get on it as soon as i finish my backlog of games.

As always you have a good taste xD

what can i say...Playstation japanese exclusive games just hit the right spot with me, they are akin to my tastes, more so than let say kirby or mario, they are just the perfect mix of a good anime (with great characters) and a good solid game.

Disgaea is a union of 3 loves of mine: RPG + Strategy + Anime
It's really niche but fits me perfectly, I just love them
Also, have you ever heard about Phantom Brave?

nope, sadly never heard of it, but after searching in google and just looking at some pictures i can easily guess it was made by the same studio that created Disgaea (NIS?), and knowing that it is a PS2 game... well the reason why i never heard of it, is beacause back on the PS2 era i didnt had internet on my house... and since magazines were the only way to get info on games i never knew about this proyect... because just like disgaea it must be your tipical good game, that its just to niche to appear on american magazines...

Yes, it's also made by NIS and if I'm not wrong in was made between Disgaea 1 and 2, for the PS2.
It resembles the strategy in Disgaea but the game has his own unique style and it's pretty good too, and both the main characters have also appeared in Disgaea games (as other NIS games that always appear too), maybe you know them, Ash (a blue haired warrior that uses a red scarf, his actually a ghost) and Marona (a totally cute and sweet green haired girl). If you played Disgaea 3 you probably have Marona at your party, she is a healer and joins you in the post game (she appears with a twisted personality because of a event of the game, but she is a good girl, if you defeate Baal you can see it). Ash was only achievable by DLC if I'm not wrong. In Disgaea 4 both are DLC only.
Phantom Brave is an amazing game and was the reason I discovered Disgaea, yeah, Disgaea was not the one who bring me to NIS xD
Also, Laharl, Etna and Flonne appears at Phantom Brave as well in the post game and you can have them to join your party.
I highly recommend you the game if you still have a PS2.

it sounds great, (i have only played Disgaea 4, and never got Disgaea 3 because i heard it wasnt the best one...), i also always wanted to grab the original Disgaea but i never got a copy of the game back in the PS2 era, and thats the reason why im hyped to play Disgaea D2 because i finally get to see Laharl, Etna and Flonne as main characters.

and no sadly i dont have a PS2 anymore but i want to buy one, especially now that its getting discontinued, just to play some of the games that i missed on the system like the .Hack series, Persona 3, the original Disgaea and now the recently added Phantom Brave.

More Disgaea is always welcome.

You only played Disgaea 4? You need to play the others! Disgaea 3 suffers from really poor graphics, it's like a PS2 game running on PS3, but the game itself is great (Disgaea 4 have a option to change the game graphics to sprites to look like 1, 2 and 3 so if you wanna know how they look just switch to it).
Also Disgaea 3 intro is really funny xD, I watch it everytime that I play the game.
The best, IMHO is Disgaea 2. Even with Laharl, Etna and Flonne being unmatched, Disgaea 2 is better in every other way to Disgaea 1.
Disgaea Dimension 2 it's a sequel to Disgaea 1, so try to play it before D2 so you can enjoy it even better, if you have the change of course, if not I'm sure you will enjoy it very well too anyway.
NIS have some other games but only Phantom Brave catch me the way Disgaea does, so yes go for it too xD
Phantom Brave have a sad story unlike the all comic Disgaea games, but I think you will enjoy it too, the game is great.

thanks for the advise, i really want to play at least the original Disgaea, and if i had the time Disgaea 2 and 3 as well, the only problem there is how time consuming this games are, (Disgaea in my opinion can easily be a 100+ hours game) and add to that the very big backlog of games that i have bought and i intend to play and well... i can only say that i will play them but i dont know when...

but first of all i need to get me a PS2 before they run out on the stores!.

Man I cant wait for 5. Ive technically only played 4 but thats because of the way I got into the franchise. I remember being at a friends house when I was around 8 and his older bro was playing this game and it was fucking awesome. We watched him play through the whole thing basically, I would go over there each day after school just to watch. Anyway many years later in 2012 I remember this moment from my childhood and spend awhile googling anything I remembered about the game. I then found out it was called Disgaea and that a 4th game had come out for the PS3, a system I had picked up within like the last 6 months. The next day I go into my local EB Games and there it is sitting on the shelf. Needless to say I bought it and have been a fan ever since.

Used PS2's are being sold quite cheap around internet, I'm sure you can find one with a good price.
And yes, all my save files for Disgaea games have over 100 hours, lol, time consuming as hell, just as a good RPG xD.

LOL yeah you can get a lot of game time out of Disgaea in fact i just edited my previous comment, because yes Disgaea 4 took me over 130 hours... i was trying to beat larhals father but... lets say i left that for another time XD.

and im gonna buy the PS2 new, its actually really cheap i just need to "grind" some money in the REAL world and i will buy it some time later this year.
