Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo Wii-U vs Nvidia Shield tablet(now $199!): A hardware comparison.

The tablets specs could be double the WiiU, and the WiiU would still perform better. Mobile hardware is never anywhere near as powerful in real world applications as its advertised to be. The tablet is probably streaming games through wifi too which is sketchy at best. Also, PPC.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Well I bought my WiiU (basic) 1 year ago for 164€. Its just 300€ because retrailers sell it for 300.

PS4 e.g is 320€ at some places. people just pay 400€ because the retailers can set the price and most went for 400€ so costumers have no choice.

Is Shield directly bought from Nvidia? If so there is no retailer that wants 20% profit.

Nvidea Shield also needs a standalone PC to be able to play the higher end games, so the prince point is moot. It's more like $1300 vs $300.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

One has Nintendo
One has stuff I can get anywhere else.

So, what do we play on this tablet? I honestly have no idea. Are there even any decent tablet games that aren't $2 throwaways?

Redesigned for what exactly? Nintendo isn't trying to compete with modern hardware, clearly.. so why does it matter if a tablet matches it in specs?

Like other people have said as well, you need a decent PC to be able to stream to your tablet, so its not "really" a $300 tablet if you don't already have the hardware to support PC game streaming.

Good, this means the tecnology for a Nintendo handled-home console hybrid is there.

Yeah I think this is the more interesting/revelant part of the discussion.

If Nvidia can sell something like this today with an 8-inch high resolution screen for only $300 ... I think certainly it looks like the door would be opening to perhaps a 5-6 inch Nintendo portable in spring/summer 2016 for say $200-$230 that can approximate Wii U graphics and can be sold at a profit.

Well that's embarassing

Yes but they will probably go with AMD again. That's not a bad thing.

the wii us processor is is 3GHz, and the tablets resolution is 720p, so still ahead at least in the procesor. Like mentioned before you still need a remore to be able to play thats another ~$50, then theres game, assuming a quality game thas at least ~$30 dependin on the age, so the shield is up to $380 so far.

Finally the holly diferiantor is that most likely the shield is usseless without a pc to actually play the games, cuz the tablet is just streaming, then thats got to be at least $400-500 to have a pc that plays wii u level of games. so this is like a $780 investment, so still not even close.
