Forums - Sony Discussion - TLOU Dev Fires Back At Those Who Feel $50 Is Too Much For PS4 Version “It’s a Steal”

That's complete bullshit. It's not a bargain. A remaster of a year old game is not worth $50, no matter how you slice it. $40, and then we'll start talking. It has nothing to do with it being a good game or not. The market value of the original is already down to $30 new. Remastering it does not suddenly add $20, 66%, to it's value. Neither does adding DLC.

How adding 30-40$ (not sure how much LB and Season Pass are going for) worth of DLC not adding value?

Do you seriously think that DLC maintains it's value indefinitely? And then there's other games that also release GOTY additions, because that's essentially what this is, with $50-$60 worth of DLC included for, for $30-$40. Adding all the DLC only justifies it being worth more than just $30. Improved graphics and framerate a year later doesn't suddenly make a game worth more. Do you see Destiny costing $70 on the PS4 because of better visuals? No. So then why the hell would that change a year later.

TLOU is currently worth $30 new without DLC. Because this is a year later, it's gets a pass on being at most $40 because it's adding DLC. You don't suddenly get to be another $10 more just because you're a "remaster."

If the original TLOU was released at the PS4's launch, they'd both be sold for $60 with no DLC. The same price. One superior. One inferior. Just like with XBO and Titanfall. Then the DLC would come out. Jump to right now, they'd do the same thing, call it TLOU: GOTY Edition, and sell it for $40 with all the DLC included, because THAT'S what it's worth.

The only reason it's being sold for more is because of the percieved value of it being prettier, not the included DLC which is the only true value added to this game.

If I had a PS4, and was a fan of the game from the PS3, I would probably re-buy it as the remastered. $50 seems like a decent price, just like a Game of the Year edition that comes later and includes all DLC and patches on disc. Just like if Nintendo made a remastered bundle of both Mario Galaxies, or Retro made a remastered Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii U, for $50 I would buy instantly. And I'm sure a few here complaining about the price of TLOU would too.

Hush. Adding a Hero mode and a sail in a 10 years old game for the full price is awesome value. But everything that's been done and included on the TLoU Re disc isn't. Go figure.

Are you seriously trying to argue that remastering a readily available 1 year old game is more valuable than remastering a conversely less available 10 year old game? It's always Sony vs. Nintendo with you people. Never just sense vs. nonsense. The sooner you stop letting everything degenerate into a product the immature and inconsequential console wars, the more rich your video game discussions will become going forward.

And who the hell ever said that WWHD was worth $50, because it definitely wasn't me and my wallet. If I didn't get it for $0.00, I wouldn't own it right now. WW is my favorite game of all time, and I don't think it's worth more than $40.

To people who've already bought the game, it's generally as much value as buying something twice. Worth it to some, not so much to most.

To people who want the game, and haven't played it, it is a bargain.

To those who don't care about the game, don't really care about the price,

To thise who just want to hate on the game/PS4, no price is cheap enough.

No one's here to criticize anyone buying the game at $50, but you're buying a rip off. Wait until it's worth your money if you truely want it, but don't give this the respect of a new release or a remaster that truely is worth $50.

To anyone wondering, this post is better than this one, because spemanig is actually explaining his opinion.

Anyway, lets look closer.

Standalone, TLOU is retailing for ~$30. Right. The Left Behind DLC is going for ~$15, the Abandoned Territories DLC is going for ~$10. With those 2 DLC items alone, we are up to ~$55. The Grounded bundle has stupid prices, so I wont list that. Even then though, you can get everything in the Season Pass for ~$20.

So standalone with Season Pass bring it to a round ~$50. This doesnt take into account the dev time to get it up and running on PS4 and to improve pretty much everything about the game. They are basically doing the upgrades for free with a retail price of ~$50, that will likely come down to $40 in very little time.

I fail to see how it is a ripoff. Adding ~$20 worth of Season Pass DLC and upgrading everything isnt worth an extra ~$20? How?

To think that something is "priced badly" one must have a wealth of examples of similar products that are of better value. Can you provide such product offerings?

Don't be silly. A bad price isn't an objective quantity. It is an opinion that an individual makes based on their circumstances.

And if you want some examples of remastered products that were more fairly priced at release date.

Kindom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix
Kindom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix
God of War Collection
God of War Origins: Collection
Ratchet and Clank: Collection
Halo: Master Chief Collection
Halo Anniversary
Fable Anniversary
Ico and Shadow of Collosus Collection

I'm sure if I really start digging into remade titles I could find a couple dozen others. Let's just say the norm isn't 1 remastered title for $50. Infact the only other remastered game I can think of that costs that much is Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD and Grand Theft Auto 5. But that doesn't even really matter. Even if the game was $40, I would think its a bad value. Just like I think most of the above collections are a bad value as well.

It should be a free download for PS3 owners who bought it full price and $40.00 for everyone else. BTW? THIS is why you PS4 owners don't get BC. They knew you'd all double dip over the course of the next few years....and you are.

as a PC gamer, paying $50 for a >1 year old game is unheard of

Awe well, you're a PC gamer so it won't affect you then....

It's worth 200 dollars if released on XBO.
