Forums - Sony Discussion - TLOU Dev Fires Back At Those Who Feel $50 Is Too Much For PS4 Version “It’s a Steal”

Because some ppl just like to complain? Some just like to take potshots at Sony? Some don't understand the industry fully? Some have a strong feeling of entitlement? I dunno, take your pick.

You know what? I'm going to go ahead and say it: "Cash grabs" like this are good for the industry!!! Why you ask? Well, let me explain:

A great game made by a great developer making as much money as it can means several things:

1. More money for the next game said developer is going to make.

2. More incentive for the publishers to fund the next game this developer will make and to give it a bigger budget in dev/marketing.

3. Devs who worked on said project get compensated better and have better job security and are thus motivated more to make the next game better.

4. Publishers become more picky about quality of game (opting to wait til a game is finished in order to make sure it comes out as finished as possible) understanding that the income stream can extend past the initial sales.

Publishers will always be shady. They will always try and see where they can make the most money. The market determines where they want these developers to go.

I would much rather they focus on quality-of-games cash grabs, funding these quality devs and getting said quality games to as many customers as possible rather than getting as many small studious churning out garbage due to a focus on quantity-of-games cash grabs trying to throw out multitudes of crappy games in the hopes of landing the next candy crush.

End rant.

Do you feel im taking a potshot at Sony because i dont agree with this or Tomb Raider doing it?  I certainly dont feel entitled, and i def understand how the industry works.  I just dont see much reason to buy it unlss you didnt have a ps3, nothing more, nothing less.   And if we are being completely honest here, a lot of the people dfending it are defending it simply because it is sony, so what you are saying about potshots could be turned around too.  I didnt see people coming out to defend Tomb Raider about 6 months ago when the exact same topic was being talked about.  Was you there defending tomb raider?

Listen im not saying its not good for the developer.  Im not saying it isnt bad either though.  I feel they could use those resources on there next game personally but as long as there next game turns out well i really dont care.

Here is some references for Tomb Raider being $60.  Go ahead and look at the comments and then come back and tell me this is just people taking potshots at sony.  Not everything has something to do with the petty console war.

I really don't understand your train of thought!?

"Cash grab"? "People who wanted it already got it"

So you are saying that Sony would have been considered less cash-grabby had they said to those 48% of PS4 owners who never owned PS3 (I'm one of those): "No, we will not offer you an improved complete version for $50! You need to go out, buy a PS3 version for $30, all DLC for $30 more, and a console for $150-200!"

Yes, that would certainly be better business for them, and for me and others who never owned a PS3.

My train of thought is i dont think it is worth it, its really that simple.  People who wanted it would have likly bought it by this point yes though i wont get into that.  You can read my other comment for more information.

As for the 48% figure ive never really believed that number since sony really doesnt have accss to all 8.6m people out there who bought Ps4 so they really dont know how many of those people actually had only a X360.  That numbr is likely done by a survey of a small fraction of the actual install base who could easily lie for that matter which isnt an uncommon thing with the console wars going around.  At best case scenario you can say 48% of lets say 2000 people they surveyed which is what percentage of 8.6m exactly?  You see where im going here?

So ill ask you the same thing.  Was you defending Tomb Raider months ago?  Be honest

1) I would actually classify you under "just likes to complain", as by your own admission (see number 5), you really don't see this as that big a negative but felt the need to come in here and complain about it.

2) I stated the reasons on the edit I added to my last post. As for me, I wanted the game, I had a PS3, I didn't buy it. I was busy playing MMOs at the time. Now that I have a chance to buy an upgraded version of the game, I am very happy.

3) Not relevant to the topic but I'm sure those who feel strongly for Tomb Raider was there to defend them as well. If I was there and if I cared about Tomb Raider, I would have posted the same thing I said above.

4) My account is barely a month old.

5) Actually, like I said above, allowing them more revenue from their game allows them more time/resources to make their next game better. This is good for the industry and good for us gamers. You see all them studious closing due to lack of funds? ND will not be one of them this day. And if you don't really care, then why are you here?

6) i didn't really care for Tomb Raider, as such, would not have contributed to a discussion where I have no emotional stake in.

OK, it's another thing not to believe a legitimate survey conducted by a reputable agency like Nielsen's, which has surveyed a certain number of users and accounted for margin of error. It just shows that you either:

a) know nothing about statistics and sampling

b) just choose to believe whatever suits you in proving your point

Again, many people owned other consoles or none at all, and most of those are not hardcore enough to warrant a purchase of multiple systems, especially if only for one or three games. You own a PS3, you played the game, great for you, You're a true fan. This game is most probably not for you.

As for TR: DE discussion, I was not a member of the forum when that was going on, so I have no idea what the opinions were, but I have purchased that game for PS4, and am very happy to have done so. It is an excellent game, and it was worth every penny of $60 I've spent on it. I am very glad Square Enix decided to reissue it, so I can experience that game on my console.

This number can actually be extracted via direct seller data. See those loyalty/rewards cards you have? Your amazon account? They can link prior purchases (and if you've ever gotten a PS3 console/game) and extrapolate from there. They won't share consumer detailes/names but they can certainly share sales stats. Higher sample size, lower margin of error.

No need to bother. It was a legitimate survey conducted by Nielsen's several months ago.

I guess we like numbers so whatever ill use numbers too. :3

1. Yepp i  love to complain.  Btw its raining outside today and that really puffles my jigglies>.< Grr, so angry.

Dont be so dismissive because someone doesnt share your view on things.

2.  Well im glad you will get the chance to play it.  Its a good game, i know, i bought it on PS3 and rated it a 9.2 or something like that.  Again, i was just complaining so i marked it down 0.8 because you know, i just like to complain.

3.  It is relevant to the topic since it is the exact same topic, just a different game which you yourself said just before that it was only people taking potshots at Sony.  I like how you chang your argument so quickly.  GG, GG.

4.  My account is barely 4 years old.

5.   Again, as long as there next game is good i really dont care.  I swear i said that before.  Oh wait, i did xD

6.   Sorry, only sony games get criticized for this thing.  You said so yourself.  TOmb Raider Definitive edition and the $60 topic never happened.  Only people with agendas complain about this right?

Man that was a really fun number game.  We should do that again sometime :D

Legitimate would conduct of 100% of the fanbase, not less than 1% of the fanbase.

What if i don't care about DLC or i already buy it on Ps3 they should make a discount for who had it

It will cost them more money to have two versions on the market, one with dlc and the other without.  Then they can really justify a high price.

No offense to you, but I repeat, you do not understand how statistics, sampling or surveys work.

Do you really believe, for instance, when they say that 100M Americans watched Superbowl, they went and asked every single person. The same exact company, Nielsen's, does that as well, using scientific methods to establish the numbers within an acceptable margin if error.

So it can be argued that the number is 45 or 51%, but it cannot be argued that the number us incorrect.

It is so pointless to argue the science of statistical sampling here, look it up, there are textbooks, college courses, master degrees in it, you will become better informed in the future.
