Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony websites were pulled offline due to unpaid bills

No automatic payments?

Sony has found itself in another embarrassing situation after the company managed to somehow forget to pay the bills for two of its websites. This issue caused both websites to go offline, along with causing server issues for video games such as Everquest, Everquest 2, Landmark and H1Z1.

The websites in question are www.soe.com and www.sonyonline.net. Whenever visitors make the jump to these websites, the server redirects them to a holding page that is owned by Network Solutions.

How did Sony forgot to pay its bills?

Well, according to SOE President John Smedley on Twitter, the email notifications from Network Solutions ended up in the Junk Box instead of in the Inbox.

"The payment notifications went to a junk email box," tweeted Smedley. He also added that, "Someone left and it got caught in the replacement's junk filter. Simple as that. Embarrassing as that. No point dodging."

Interestingly enough, while Sony is aware of the issue and has likely paid the bills already, folks who are interested in visiting both websites or playing the affected video games would likely have to wait a long time.

In additional Tweets, Smedley wrote that DNS problems could take up to 48 hours fix, and he also took the time out to admit that Sony messed up.

"The login issues reported this morning have begun to be resolved," says a SOE community relations staff member in a forum post recently.

"However, some players may be unable to connect to SOE services intermittently for up to 48 hours, including websites, forums and games. We apologize for the inconvenience."

There could be a silver lining at the end of this tunnel after Sony and Network Solutions bring the issue under control. Gamers who own the affected games should keep an eye out for "kiss and make up" gifts from Sony.

Due to Sony's financial woes, we can't help but wonder if that is the reason behind the failure of paying the bills for these websites. The chances of this issue being a slight mix up due to misplaced emails could be true, but we can't just ignore the 900 pound gorilla in the room.

Seriously... They have accountants that deal with this stuff. I doubt they can't afford to pay the sites, it's a blunder, but I don't think this is the legit reason. It sounds like a load of BS.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

This is stupid beyond belief. It was a fuck up. That's all. No foreboding anything.

Sounds like an honest mistake.

and "honest" mistake.... you'd think a company like sony, everything would be done electronically plus they probably have people hired for these specific things... someone would have really messed up or they did it purposly because something happened that they were not happy about.
