Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why the lack of hype for....just about any game on wii?

It's a pity really, oh well. It's no worry to Nintendo.

Besides some great multiplatform games(Force, PES, Alone in the Dark), the rest is either japanese and/or I have never heard about it. The situation simply is that there are no really big third-party exclusives that appeal to the western world to generate some hype. (Red Steel perhaps but thats rather embarrassing)

Get over it. There may even be some games that will sell really good because they target a wider more casual audience (like Carnival or Sega Olympics) but its hard to generate "hype" for games like that.

So, just because they're Japanese (ever heard of a series called Final Fantasy?) or you've never heard of them, they can't appeal to the "Western world"? Whatever.

@ Words of Wisdom: The reason why Wii fans are hyped for some of these games is because they look good. C;mon; don't tell me you're not excited to stab things with your stinger as a scorpion, or shake maracas without having to own a Dreamcast, or play a Red Steel game that doesn't suck. :)

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

personally, besides SSBB, mario kart, and possibly Wii Fit coming out this year by nintendo, there is only one 3rd party title i believe is worth buying this year. That title is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. As for any other titles that is 3rd party is of no interest to me. This is due to the lack of hype or interest.

That's sarcasm right?

Why do so many people talk smack about wii's third party line up and then ignore a lot of this gold? Nice list Garcian, just shows there's a lot of grade A stuff out there. And the best part is all the Wii Ware which as you mentioned, even comes in it's own list of great stuff.

Why is it that other people brag about games like Mushroom Men and King Story?

Most people either attempt to hype every 3rd party effort on the Wii (even what may be crap) or none of it. I don't really see much in between.

Have you seen the development team for King's Story? It's an all star team of developers.

Not to mention, the videos of the game have looked solid so far with a nice combination of Settler's style game play/Pikmin/Harvest Moon. A hell of a combo :)

I'll give you mushroom men but even that game is a testament to the abillity for indie developers to work ofr the wii. But king's story deserves any and all hype ATM.

Reminds me of what I heard just prior to Lair being released.

Well, in all fairness, Lair was hyped the hell out of. However, there's now way King's Story production values are anywhere near close as Lair. It really is a niche title.

Jeese, people are douches. Nothing can be discussed politely or intelligently without trying to make crass generalizations, or slamming one side of the console aisle or the other. Very few questions have been answered or even seriously attempted to be answered (thank you for the handful of responses that didn't involve "lol this such and such system sucks, and it's fans do too!"
Apparently "niche" is becoming anything that doesn't have men with guns, or perhaps men with swords on occasion. What is wrong with a game like boom blox except for "lolz wheres teh gunz??" It's an innovative physics based puzzle game with dynamic character AI and the ability to create, trade, and download new levels. But no gunz=for teh casualz=nobody cares. Kings Story (project 0) is bashed by people that don't even know anything about it. It's got an all star teamof developers working on it, and it's a unique strategy/RTS/RPG/city building sim. But the main character is a kid that has a conspicuous lack of gun=teh niche=nobody cares. De Blob is an innovative open world action game with an incredible art style and good use of the wii's motion control and seems reminiscent of artsy game of old "Jet Set Radio", but it's about a blob of paint that seems to have neither guns nor sword, and doesn't appear to be killing anything so de blob=teh kidiiez=no one cares.

I think a large part of the lack of hype is the conditioning the "hardcore" crowd has undergone. The only games worth paying attention to all involve tough guys with guns or swords, and must be beautiful. Niche titles are 90% of game styles and genres. Is it possible that the lack of hype is due to the intollerance of the so called "hardcore" crowd? Magazines, and websites are just pandering to the tastes of those that just want another military shooter, or God Of War style bad ass? And that something "niche" like King's Story just doesn't generate hits, or purchases?

I'm starting to believe that this is the case. The fact that so many PS3 or 360 owners can look at that list of third party titles and see nothing but niche crap strongly supports that theory.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Niche is all-too-often used simply as an excuse for failure to sell.

Example:  The game didn't sell poorly, it was just targeting a niche audience.

You're just trying to be a troll, words of wisdom. If you don't have anything constructive to add to my topic, then I ask you not to post in it.
