Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One will live as long as the 360, says UK marketing chief

With game production costs being as high as they are it could just be.

I prefer gens to be as long as possible. PS360 was perfect. I want to expend my money in games, not systems. And if it's longer to give me time to buy one of the other consoles, than it's even better.

No it won't. The internet says this gen will me much shorter than last gen. I trust the internet over some big exec in the company that will actually make the decision.

Thanks jlmurph!

As we all know, when the Xbox 360 launched it was ahead of what the existing PC hardware for it's time, which contributed to the long life of the console and not too mention that it took them quite sometime to make a profit due to the losses they were initially taking whereas the Xbox One is making a small profit/ or minor loss per console sold.

given that the components of the Xbox One (CPU and Vid Card) are the specs of a lower mid range PC in terms of power. With portable devices alone being pushed on a graphics scale (companies like Nvidia) and PC graphics accelerating at the rate they are, my prediction is the next Xbox will release in late 2018 (or early 2019).

It's good PR but I hope they are not actually serious about trying to create another long console cycle as they did this gen.

" Rebellion Against Tyrants Is Obedience To God"

"We will support our console for a long time!"
Sounds like marketing all right.

We'll see. But I personally wouldn't mind a generation that is similarly long as the last one, maybe a year shorter.

Try 2 years. MS made the huge mistake of keeping 360 on the market for 8 years before launching the successor. If X1 doesn't pick up fast, they might be forced to "flip the board" and start anew, and force Sonys hand to follow. Same goes for Nintendo where they and MS might both launch first to get the jump.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Please don't make this generation longer than 7 years. Last gen was extruciatingly long.

Yeah, I really don't want MS to "flip the board", that would destroy my PS4 prediction.

At this moment I don't fear a lot from Nintendo, but MS could really fuck the PS4 over with coming out too early with the Xbox 2 or whatever. Let's hope the X1 picks up.

Am I the only one that wants this gen and the last to last longer?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

This gen isn't going to last anywhere near 8 years. The systems are far too weak for that.

I predict the next Nintendo in late 2016, the next Xbox in late 2017/early 2018 and the next PlayStation in late 2018.
