For 2D Mario, I have to go with Mario World because it has many memorable tunes ( the best being the final boss music), while for 3D Mario I have to go with Mario 64 for the same reason! Galaxy 1 is not too far behind in terms of awesome tunes either!

I love the music from galaxy, i dont know why one exactly has better one though...
Mario 64 was also pretty good!

Out of the main platforming games, I'd go with SM Sunshine.

About the only area where it beats the others IMO.

Galaxy with its orchestral masterpieces. 64 also has great tunes.

Fun fact, just about every piece of music in Super Mario is derived from the same theme song, but either the tempo was increased, decreased, or the key changed (for example, the castle music was the main theme, just changed to a minor key).

Super Mario Galaxy. Gusty Garden, Purple Comet, Waltz of the Boos, Battlerock Galaxy, Rosalina in the Observatory, and the final boss theme are all amazing tracks if I do say so myself.
