Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony is looking at remastering PS3 titles the same way Disney remasters movies

Looks like Sony is working on even more remasters of PS3 games. Andrew House likens it to the movie industry (mostly Disney) reintroducing classics.

"I hesitate to say this because I know committed gamers may roll their eyes about it," House admits, "but there's an opportunity with some of the remastering or re-imagining from PS3 franchises that will potentially find an audience that hasn't played them in the previous generation because they skipped that generation."

House continued: "That bodes well for us as a platform, but it bodes well for developers and publishers as well. I've always looked with envy at the movie industry about what a great job they're able to do with taking content and making it work. Disney is the best example of this, right, of taking classic content and reintroducing it to audiences over time."

So i take it this is why (or at least one of the big reasons) there was no backwards compatibility.

See, there is one thing though with this. I can understand Disney remastering it's classics... like someof them at 20+ years or older and they were wonderful movies for both kids and adults. in 20 yers, there is a whole new generation and new technology. I doubt a lot of people have VCRs anymore to wathc the really old classics so remastering them, cleaning them up works great. As for Sony here... they are "remastering" games that are a year old simply because they sold well and they know people will buy them and it takes them less time and a lot less money to make them and they know they will probably make more over all than the orignal did espeically for games like TLOU. It is just... odd. If it was some of their PS1 games, yeah, by all means, go ahead and remaster those but games that are a year to5 years old? No.

facepalm

Thanks for all the great memories!

Great news! I was getting sick of new games anyway...

Wow. It is very nice till I get all of my favorite games in PS4. Then I will start bashing when they start remastering games that I dont like.

The reason there is no backwards compatibility is the same reason there was no backwards compatibility for N64, SNES, and GCN for Nintendo.  And to a lesser extent Xbox One, Xbox 360.  It's too expensive.

Software emulation is not expensive though, in fact its free.

Great. Now remaster the Ratchet and Clank Future series.

Becuase there isn't any new games coming out soon. Christ.

That's kinda cool. It would be very cool, if they made them limited edition, like Disney remastered.

nice

Disney typically does this with decades old movies though, not year old ones.
