Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The Witcher 3 E3 Xbox One Demo Analysis: "Experience Closer To PC, DX11 API Knowledge Helpful in Xbox One Development"

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt demo that was showcased at E3 2014 was running on Xbox One. Our friend at Eurogamer did a tech analysis and discover some startling improvements. As per the details shared it the report, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Xbox One will offer experience closer to that of PC.

With The Witcher 3, we're in next-gen territory. Having analysed the console gameplay shown at Microsoft's E3 2014 conference, it's clear the Xbox One version is set to fall much closer to the PC experience says the report.

Furthermore, it was discovered in the tech analysis that E3 2014 demo was running at 900p and there is room for more improvement in the final build.

Eurogamer asked Senior Art Producer, Michał Krzemiński, about the differences in approach development team at CD Projekt Red took when developing for either PS4 or Xbox One, he replied that previous experience of DirectX API on PC was very helpful in developing the title on Xbox One.

"The fact that we can use DX11 on Xbox One and the PC makes some things easier," Michał Krzemiński says. "We do have to put a little extra effort into developing on the PlayStation 4, but it's nothing we can't handle and that would make development problematic."

In addition to this it was discovered in the demo build that CD Projekt Red have used permanent v-sync to avoid screen tearing, and with so much time still left for launch, development team will be able to hit the 30 FPS.

Some areas are in need of a lot of work (18 - 30fps in the forest combat isn't acceptable), but all in all they've done a really good job, especially given how long they have left.

I'm not convinced they will be able to hit a stable 30fps at 1080p, but if they can do it at 900p with some nice AA then that will still be an admirable achievement regardless.

They forgot to say "closer to a low range PC"

They haven't forgot to say anything that mean Xbox version gonna look closer to pc version than ps4

Well so long the "ps4 is easier to develop for" this clearly states otherwise.

To quote them from another article:

"It's actually easier to develop for Xbox One for us because we're PC developers. So everything we do on PC is for DirectX 11. And Xbox is also based on DX. So for the rendering side it's a more natural progression for us to go to Xbox." ... "But we anticipate being able to do 1080p on PS4 a little bit easier than on the Xbox."

It's not a matter of the hardware being easier to work with, they simply have more experience with DX. In general terms to consensus seems to be that the PS4 is easier to work with (understandably), but of course a developer's own experience with the hardware and its API will come into play.

His statement does speak volumes though. They're having a slightly easier time achieving 1080p on the console they understand less ^^

thats a good news for me

So PS4 should be 1080p then?

Hopefully it will be a solid 30 by launch...
