Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why is Earthbound good ?

I have loved Ness since i first used him in Smash Bros. He had those cool attacks ranging from useing a bat to a yo-yo and some cool magical attacks. As a huge nintendo fan, I keep on hearing things like " Make a sequel Nintendo!!".

I thought about finally getting it on the WiiU's virtual console, but never got the chance, but a while ago nintendo revealed there club nintendo platinum rewards and they include Earthbound! And some other good games :S

So there are a couple of games that I want to get:

Earthbound ( dont know why its good though)

Game and Wario: Seems fun and interesting, but not worth the money and its available for free.

Fludity Spin Cycle : Looks fun, but boring after a while.

Zelda II: I didnt play most of the old Zelda games and want to try this out.

So what should i pick? Its mostly between Game and Wario and Earthbound, but i have a feeling that Earthbound might get boring. I dont reallu like to get lost cuz that is just annoying.

Don't get Game & Wario. Even Zelda II has more gameplay. By the way Zelda II is pretty good, but prepare to learn and master it over a long time if you're not a gaming god. It's difficult in other words.

I haven't played Earthbound but I might someday.

Yep.

Earthbound is just a wunderfull rpg. Zelda 2 is realy strange and nothing like any other zelda games.

EB is good to people. Because of the story. It's very bizarre and the creators have fun with stuff in it. But it can be too weird for people. Plus, you can get annoyed at what your have to do next etc. It's why it sold poorly in the first place. It's a good game. But most don't pick it up for some of these factors. I say get it if you want a long game to play.

Zelda II is okay. Except remember this: When you get EXP points. You litterly have to touch it to count. If you don't, you get nothing. Main factor why I hate the game. I've died for days in the game. All because I wasn't leveling up. Because I thought like any other game after Zelda II came out. You just gain the exp normally.

Between Game & Wario and Earthbound? So, it's between one of the worst Nintendo games ever and one of the best Nintendo games ever?  Just get Earthbound, because it's just an awesome game! It barely has any flaws in my book!

Earthbound is an rpg first off, but it's an Rpg with some extreme character. Instead of fighting beasts you fight muggers with baseball bats, or the strongest ant that ever did live.

The story is also well done you feel a sense of amazement from the music and the overall story is the typical coming of age that school has made us love (or despise).

The fighting is also nicely designed as the game goes on and as you get more characters on your team the enemies (or environments damn you sunburn!) become harder to overcome. Plus the layout of fighting is nice and simple.

Overall I just have to say it's a harder Rpg but it's a amazing game either way.

Consoles: 3DS, Wii U, and Vita soon. Super Paper Mario fan.

You can't really get lost in EarthBound. It's a sizable game, but the world layout isn't very intricate or confusing (only frustrating part is in Onett when you're wandering around and all the skate punks are stronger than you...).

It's ultimately worth the trip. Just read up a bit on how the battle mechanics all work. So much i didn't know about how to fight in that game until i looked up the easy way to beat Giygas.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I just started replaying Earthbound last week for the first time in like 3-4 years. I'll tell you why.

It's a very simple top-down RPG (old-school Dragon Quest Style) that makes gameplay very simple and clear. It's a game with a vibe like no other that captures you with it's honest and simple approach to the mythos of the game. It's an ordinary world with amazing things happening in it.

You really feel like you have adventured very far because of how crazy an adventure it is. In a normal Medieval type RPG the "world" of the game never changes beyond what you expect so there is less a sense of traversing and having travelled very far in the game. Earthbound, however, does not lack in that department.

Beyond that there are many ways of deeply looking into the game's meaning that will be subjective to the viewer.

Wait you didn't know how to fight until you looked up how to beat Giygas. So you looked at a walkthrough to fight the final boss to help you with everythig before it :P

Wut? I think you're confusing Zelda II with another game... Never heard of this, all I know is that you lose your current exp if you get a game over.

Yep.
