How did they know they were illegal immigrants?

My thoughts exactly, the entire video and piece are written basically under the assumption that anyone who just came to the US, and can't speak much English, must clearly be illegal.

thats because one of the basic requirments to become a US citizen is you need to be able to read, write, and speak english.  these people coming off that bus do not speak english in the slightest and would not pass one of the most early test to becoje a citizen therefore we can deduct that they are not here legally

You do know that people can actually come to the US and work legally, and still not be US citizens. You cannot deduct anything, except that the woman in the report is racist scum.

I work really hard at my job, and I barely am able to stay afloat with rent, utilities, and groceries. At the same time, I have to be honest about the situation, and say that I do not want nor would I feel entitled to an EBT card, because that would enable me to not have to work towards a better quality of life. It would keep me complacent, because I would be just comfortable enough to keep doing what I'm doing and not be in any particular rush to change my situation.

If you subsidize something, you get more of it. I find it deeply offensive and immoral that some of my hard-earned tax dollars are given to people to buy KFC and Taco Bell, or go to a liquor store and buy Funyuns or Ben & Jerry's with their EBT card, and then use their cash to purchase tobacco or alcohol. That is gross abuse of a system that was originally intended to only be used to help people who were in dire straits and needed a temporary leg up so they weren't starving to death. You would not believe how many people walking into grocery stores are buying junk food, ice cream, drink mixers, candy, etc with their EBT. It is meant for people who literally can't afford groceries, not to allow people to eat junk food, contribute to their obesity, and enable them to not work harder to make a better life for themselves or their families. People who DON'T abuse food stamps, and actually use the money appropriately, should be outraged at all of the abuse that calls into question the entire system. Why is there not more outrage? It is maddening.

Oh, and did you know that in certain states, like Michigan where I live, there are now EBT cards with cash allowances, which means you can go to an ATM and WITHDRAW CASH, at which point what little control there was over the use of the funds is then completely gone, and you can literally use it on whatever you please.

Morally questionable it may (or may not) be, but giving money to the poor, especially cash, has proven to be quite economically viable.

$1 from a wealthy or middle class person (let's face it, most of that money is not coming from people like you who are, self-admittedly, just above the line) given to a poor person will go a lot further in this economy. It's called the multiplier effect, because the poor will spend that dollar (the rich won't), and spend it quicker than the middle class would.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

From the YouTube video:
"UPDATE: Many sources have told me that these are migrant workers on a local farm, although I have not been able to personally verify this. If I'm able to speak with someone about it I will for sure post whatever information I obtain here."

And from the article:
"UPDATE: Apparently this story is not quite accurate."

Well, there are exemptions to the English proficiency requirement to become a US Citizen, however, you're forgetting legal migration, which has no such proficiency requirement at all.  And yes, legal migrants can get EBT cards.  Here's the problem with the claim, I live in small town no-where's-ville, Vermont, and I know that a farm not 20 miles from me, brings in a very specific group of migrants to plant and harvest a very specific type of vegetable not indigenous to Vermont.  They do it every year, and I know most of them speak little to no English.

Just because one person doesn't speak much English, means exactly jack squat with regards to what conclusions about legal migration you can draw.

yes I do know how Immigrant visas work and I will admit I wasnt paying close attention (or any attention at all really) to what I was typing and messed up my deduction.  Any way after checking out the comments on the video im willing to admit I was wrong on this topic seems like everybody on the bus is here on a program called the H2A.

"The H-2A program allows U.S. employers or U.S. agents who meet specific regulatory requirements to bring foreign nationals to the United States to fill temporary agricultural jobs. A U.S. employer,a U.S. agent as described in the regulations,or an association of U.S. agricultural producers named as a joint employer must file Form I-129, Petition for Nonimmigrant Worker, on a prospective worker’s behalf."

It's actually the exact same program they use at the Farm near my house lol, go figure.

Ya I will admit my own familys histroy with immigration visas has clouded my judgement and what kinds of visas their are for workers.  Seems like the people in the video (and the workers in your town coincidentally) all came to america and are staying here through an H2A program.  Which is rather different from the visas I'm use to dealing with.

EDIT. whoops looks like you already found out through my last comment well isnt this just awkward
