Forums - Gaming Discussion - Lets face it: 3DS is Wii U's worst enemy

Wii U isnt taking sales away from 3DS, not sure what makes u think thats what im saying.

You do indirectly say it when you say that the 3DS is taking sales away from the Wii U. That means that they are competing, and that means that if one goes up, the other goes down. But when the Wii U launches, the 3DS isn't affected, and it just keeps on trending as if nothing happened.

If they were competing, even if the 3DS was winning the cometition, the emergence of the Wii U would have lowered it's sales.

Don't make me have to repeat myself on this.

They are definitely losing sales from me. There are lots of games on 3DS that I would love to play, but I do not want to purchase the handheld as I cannot stand playing on a small screen looking down at my hands all day. They can easily resolve this by doing one of the following:
1) Make 3DS games available for purchase on the Virtual Console (and make them available to play on 3DS as well)
2) Create a device similar to the Super Game Boy and let us play 3DS carts on the Wii U.
3) Allow the Wii U tablet to be replaced by the 3DS and let the 3DS play full-screen. (For the next revisions I guess)

Seriously, make it happen! Man I want to play some of those great games. They just need to unify the library and allow cross-buy/play and all that goodness.

I think ur dream may come true next gen, all signs are pointing to Nintendo unifying the handheld & home consoles by releasing devices with the same architecture and similar enough specs so they can play all the same games as one another.

Funny enough, your post suggest that even nintendo recognizes that the offerings are similar on 3DS and Wii U. Why else would they decide to just unify their console and handheld offerings?

I think a similar concept applies to ps3 and vita in reverse. There isn't much of a reason to get a vita if you own a ps3 a good chunk of it's library are ports/similar games to it's console cousins. SOny recognizes this too hence, the focus on rebranding vita as a portable ps4 screen

In terms of sales lost.. No. Far from it. Tablets are killing the wii console.. This is quite ironic considering the wii u is the only console with a tablet and yet the tablet users propably has more likelyhood of buying a ps4 or xbox one than a wii u.

Its amazing how no one attributes Nintendo's woes since the N64 era to the loss of third party. Nintendo has never truly been competitive in a traditional sense since the SNES era.

Again like I said thats not how things work, we can both agree that PS4 & One are in direct competition so why did sales of both increase in June compared to May? By ur logic if one increased in sales then the other should have seen a drop, that did not happen and is proof that ur logic is flawed.

I wish I knew how to embed graphs. And to sort out unnessecary platforms from the VGC hardware charts. But look at hardware at the PS4 launch. It's sales are at a million. Then when Xbone launches, it dips to 10% of that at 99000. then it rises back up to close to a million.

That's what's to be expected from platforms who are in competition.

Now ur just stretching, week 2 sales were down because PS4 had massive shortages in America, week 3 sales went back up so high because it launched in Europe that week.

Ya im sure Nintendo sees this, maybe that was the plan and they thought we will release these high profile games on 3DS then 1-2 years later these people will also buy a Wii U to play the bigger, better sequels.
