There was a probability of life happening based on the forces and elements in place. To our knowledge a form of life happened on Earth due to the conditions present including an atmosphere, liquid water, and a favorable temperature range.
The truth is with our tiny understanding of life on other planets or moons it is hard to say how difficult it is to have the ingredients for life. I would argue that given the sheer scale of the universe the odds are in favor of life existing in millions if not billions of other solar systems.
None of this requires some grand intelligence or gods. Gods are conceived by beings such as homo sapiens that are able to construct abstract thought. Our ancestors needed closure and in the absence of understanding and knowledge filled in the gaps of how things work with the super natural. Much of these no longer exist, we no longer consider a god in a chariot to drag the sun across the sky an explanation to be given any merit. In this time gods only exist in the bits of reality we have not replaced with knowledge and understanding. I firmly think in the coming centuries these too will fall by the way side and gods will be viewed in the same way astrology and alchemy are. Stepping stones in our development no longer needed to understand reality.
