Doesn't mean you're still not bashing the series because other possibly more deserving games deserve more attention which is stolen away by Gran Turismo's brand name.

So.. what you're trying to say is, "okay you're a fan of gran turismo but you're bashing gran turismo because it steals attention away from more deserving games" ? if so your logic makes NO sense.

I edited after you quoted me but before your post.  Here's what I added to it that would go along with what you quoted.

I could take an image of every Final Fantasy released in the US except for the Wii U/DS Crystal Chronicles games and Lightning Returns, yet you'll constantly see me bashing several games in the franchise.

It's for the exact same reason I expect your bashing Gran Turismo for, except that the Final Fantasy series isn't the same game getting an update to a better game, even if GT is worse than Forza 4 it's still better than the previous iterations.  The latest Final Fantasy games are absolute shit yet people overlook other games and purchase these games because they're Final Fantasy.  Even when Final Fantasy was good, there were way too many great games that were overlooked because the series was so big.  It killed the potential sales of many amazing games.

It doesn't need to be killed, but I agree a major overhaul is in order.

Yep.

If only the issue was just how many polygons.

No, the issue is:

- standard cars have no interior (view omitted in 5, black mess in 6)
- no physical crash damage, hitting a wall at top speed has no real effect on your driving.
- physics model only actually works when two or more wheels are in contact with the road, as soon as theyre not physics model is switched for a basic mass vs gravity on the collision box.
- sounds are all fucking awful
- environments are mostly awful
- heavy restrictions on modification, no real upgrade since GT1, if anything less modification options than the first 4 games
- zero customization options for paintwork, anyone who has spent more than 10 minutes with forza knows that theres a huge community feel surrounding the customization and sharing of car paint/decal designs.
- loss of focus, you can upload gps data from a specific car in certain locations, something maybe 40, or 50 people on earth will ever actually do.
- indestructable tyres, get them as bald as you want and the only penalty is a slow degredation of traction until it hits 20% then goes no lower.
- basic damage modeling with no mechanical impact, and no matter how badly you damage the car the collision model remains the same, and as a result, the aerodynamics model (since it uses the collision model)
- a focus on squeezing more polygons into cars using adaptive tesselation when they could have spent that time actually improving gameplay
- Removal of endurance races, longest race in GT5/GT6 is 15 laps of brands hatch, gran turismo 1, on the PS1.. had a 60 lap race on grand valley speedway, the only way to win and use the Castrol Supra GT.
- No live used car dealerships (car offerings changing over time passed, was in from GT1-4).

Then why make such a big deal about liking GT4 more.  There wasn't any vehicle damage and bringing up Forza 4.  Why not just admit you're making a thread and hating on the Gran Turismo series because other games are overlooked due to Gran Turismo's popularity.

God forbid he wants the series to have the quality to match its sales. Gotta respect that. Bragging about sales is fine and dandy if that's what gets you off, but many core fans see the cracks in the armor and want better. Nothing wrong with that....in fact that is much better then being content with the way things are just because it sells good.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yes, and you edited to hastily remove the part where you reffered to me as being butthurt, too.

I rapidly got the sense, from most posts in response to this thread, that the general consensus is basically "lol you're stoopid, why would they ever actually take a time out and start over with something better when they can churn out crap and still sell millions".

Which is as alarming as it is mind numbingly hypocritical given that every day there are people bitching here over the quality of new games being released.

Yet i say they should put a franchise to rest, either permanently or until they can approach it with fresh eyes and make something truly awesome, and it's as if i've just dissed every members mother at the same time.

Maybe you are.

My reason for bashing Final Fantasy, even though I am a fan of the series is for similar reasons on why I expect you to dislike the newer Gran Turismo titles.  With the Gran Turismo titles, the series has been progressively getting better even if it might not be making the jump from game to game that Forza has been.  Imo, the latest Final Fantasy games are absolute shit yet people overlook other games and purchase these games because they're Final Fantasy.  Even when Final Fantasy was good, there were way too many great games that were overlooked because the series was so big.  It killed the potential sales of many amazing games.  As much of a fan of the series and the fact that the games were all great back then, doesn't mean that I wasn't pissed off at other "rpg fans" narrow mindedness of only purchasing the latest super popular RPG and ignoring everything else.

That's the reason I said what I said.  Because you first mentioned GT4 and the things you've brought up weren't available in GT4 either, which I came to the conclusion you're just pissed that Gran Turismo hasn't been making the jump it should be and games like Forza have been but still selling worse.

I believe GT should be a once a gen title, similar to how Nintendo handles Mario Kart on home consoles.

No reason for GT6 to exist on PS3 when GT5 was getting regular content updates.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Let's be honest here, GT6 could have been a DLC / update.

Probably would have done just fine if it was a content DLC that also included a graphical upgrade. People would have bought it, plus they wouldn't look bad for having GT5 sell 10M+ while GT6 drops to maybe 3M+.

Exactly. Gran Turismo 6 wasn't needed at all. It felt like a rushed copy/paste of a game. I didn't see any hype or advertising behind the game. I'd say the game looked more like a cash grab. If Polyphony is planning to release 2 GT's per generation with less and less effort put into it, I guess they'll be digging their own grave. I don't want to see the series gone yet.
