Forums - Gaming Discussion - Gran Turismo should be laid to rest.

Maybe you should wait for GT7 to come out.

you don't want them reusing assets, yet you would rather they remade GT 1-4, instead of fix the problems the franchise has, you would rather they just stop making the franchise all together?

I dunno, I am really beginning to get a somewhat strange vibe from your posts. Maybe its in my head though; guess I will just say. No. I don't think they should stop making GT.

If only the issue was just how many polygons.

No, the issue is:

- standard cars have no interior (view omitted in 5, black mess in 6)
- no physical crash damage, hitting a wall at top speed has no real effect on your driving.
- physics model only actually works when two or more wheels are in contact with the road, as soon as theyre not physics model is switched for a basic mass vs gravity on the collision box.
- sounds are all fucking awful
- environments are mostly awful
- heavy restrictions on modification, no real upgrade since GT1, if anything less modification options than the first 4 games
- zero customization options for paintwork, anyone who has spent more than 10 minutes with forza knows that theres a huge community feel surrounding the customization and sharing of car paint/decal designs.
- loss of focus, you can upload gps data from a specific car in certain locations, something maybe 40, or 50 people on earth will ever actually do.
- indestructable tyres, get them as bald as you want and the only penalty is a slow degredation of traction until it hits 20% then goes no lower.
- basic damage modeling with no mechanical impact, and no matter how badly you damage the car the collision model remains the same, and as a result, the aerodynamics model (since it uses the collision model)
- a focus on squeezing more polygons into cars using adaptive tesselation when they could have spent that time actually improving gameplay
- Removal of endurance races, longest race in GT5/GT6 is 15 laps of brands hatch, gran turismo 1, on the PS1.. had a 60 lap race on grand valley speedway, the only way to win and use the Castrol Supra GT.
- No live used car dealerships (car offerings changing over time passed, was in from GT1-4).

Then why make such a big deal about liking GT4 more.  There wasn't any vehicle damage and bringing up Forza 4.  Why not just admit you're making a thread and hating on the Gran Turismo series because other games are overlooked due to Gran Turismo's popularity.

what has releasing a collection of the best games in the series have to do with not wanting them to keep churning out badly balanced slop?
that's like saying oh, no dont bother with master chief collection because i don't want another ODST.

One major problem I've noticed of the latest Gran Turismo entries is the blandness. The races overall, the menus, the sounds, the music... they sacrificed everything that made the series look alive for the sake of photorealism. I'm not complaining about the extremely detailed cars or tracks, it's how it plays out. Call me crazy, but I preferred much, much more to go to East City, go into the Honda dealership and buy a NSX rather than just going into a single menu with all the car brands and buy one. I really liked that kind of quirkiness the series had.

I agree with OP. As a former fan of the series from Gran Turismo 1 (played the original JP release for 9 months plus and an additional 6 months on the North American release) up to Gran Turismo 4, I was disappointed with GT5 and refuse to buy GT6 until it hits bargain bin prices.

I've watched the series go from a revolutionary exciting game to a stagnant convoluted mess that doesn't know what it wants to be anymore. The immense range in asset quality (car modelling, upscaled versus rebuilt tracks, pitiful audio quality) and absolutely TRAGIC race "AI", along with questionable tire physics and tuning physics just makes me wish Polyphony would give their head a shake and wake up.

The only way I can see them moving the series forward is by getting rid of the guy at the top. His "vision" can't help create a compelling, quality, well thought out and well produced game any longer.

There are two sim racers on consoles. As of Project cars there will be 3. They all have vast differences to fans of the genre.

I literally cannot believe you are a huge GT fan.

GT6 and Tourist Trophy have been added since i took this, so i'd appreciate it if you didn't make unfounded assumptions.

Doesn't mean you're still not bashing the series because other possibly more deserving games deserve more attention which is stolen away by Gran Turismo's brand name.

I could take an image of every Final Fantasy released in the US except for the Wii U/DS Crystal Chronicles games and Lightning Returns, yet you'll constantly see me bashing several games in the franchise.

So.. what you're trying to say is, "okay you're a fan of gran turismo but you're bashing gran turismo because it steals attention away from more deserving games" ? if so your logic makes NO sense.

Trucksaurus, what is the well tough argument in killing your top selling franchise? A cry for upgrade I could understand tough. And even taking long for GT5 to come out made fans unhappy, so killing it would make fans urge in revolt.
