Forums - Gaming Discussion - Gran Turismo should be laid to rest.

I thought the standard cars were the remakes of old GT cars.... but you have a problem with them and want them to hire more developers to make them, but if they do that then you would still have a problem with the extra polygons.

Seems like theres no way for GT to please you.

One quick question: what about DriveClub, Forza Horizon 2, and Project CARS make them much better than GT7?

Nothing probably. Driveclub is an arcade racer, forza horizon 2 I guess uses some of Forza's physics engine but is still an arcadey open world driving game and Project CARS is the only sim of the bunch and like I said I don't think will match all of the different content that GT has.

The second part of the OP starts by assuming as fact that 3 unreleased arcade racing games are pushing things where the announced GT7 will newer do. That, right there is enough to discredit the entire argumentation.

But wait, Gran Turismo is moving in directions other racing games never have, including elite PC racers. Now, I admit that the way they produced GT5 at least, does bring concern about their ability to truly step forward and evolve, but GT6 is better and just purely based on the new toy they have to develop the new game on, GT7 will probably be a revelation, if not necessarily a monster seller.

Sounds? They will change them, probably for the better.
Assets? Some will be updated, others will be filtered and probably still be in the game but one will be able to choose to never ever see them an still have access to 800 cars of the highest quality.
Social? - Let's hope they will have the courage to make a good online racing scene like the aforementioned PC simulators do, and add some FIA ... erm ... allure. Racing clubs a la Drive Club? Who needs them...

So, no, they should not put the series to rest.
Actually, a simple, upgraded in all aspects to PS4 capabilities evolution of GT6 would suffice for a game to be the best of what this game series does best - Be a Car Museum.
But I have the feeling that GT7 will be much more.

To everyone calling the thread stupid or dumb, you guys are on the edge of flaming. The OP backs his opinion with well written arguments. You can of course disagree with those arguments but if you do I suggest that you simply refute those arguments or state why you think they are not valid. Calling the thread stupid or dumb does nothing to further discussion and won't be tolerated any further.

Signature goes here!

There are two sim racers on consoles. As of Project cars there will be 3. They all have vast differences to fans of the genre.

I literally cannot believe you are a huge GT fan.

Gran Turismo 6 has 452 premium vehicles, over 1200 premium/standard vehicles, and 71 different tracks. Gran Turismo 4 has over 700 vehicles and 51 different tracks. Gran Turismo 6 is a better racing simulator and has better graphics. Additionally, if you are one of those that don't use the in vehicle view and drive standard vehicles using third person view or hood camera view, all the standard cars, even though upscaled from Gran Turismo 4 are still better graphically.  Even if you dislike standard vehicles, there's still 452 premiums which would seem like more than enough unless you're just upset your favorite car hasn't been made available.

Also, what's so good about Drive Club, Forza Horizon 2, and Project Cars?  Drive Club only has 50 vehicles and is a simcade racer, not simulation.  Project Cars is a simulation made by an indie dev and more than likely doesn't have close to 452 vehicles.  Forza Horizon 2 is an open world arcade racer and will probably have somewhere between Forza 5's 200 vehicles and 500 from Forza 4.

Its Playstation's biggest video game franchise. Ending it would be a very silly thing to do.

If only the issue was just how many polygons.

No, the issue is:

- standard cars have no interior (view omitted in 5, black mess in 6)
- no physical crash damage, hitting a wall at top speed has no real effect on your driving.
- physics model only actually works when two or more wheels are in contact with the road, as soon as theyre not physics model is switched for a basic mass vs gravity on the collision box.
- sounds are all fucking awful
- environments are mostly awful
- heavy restrictions on modification, no real upgrade since GT1, if anything less modification options than the first 4 games
- zero customization options for paintwork, anyone who has spent more than 10 minutes with forza knows that theres a huge community feel surrounding the customization and sharing of car paint/decal designs.
- loss of focus, you can upload gps data from a specific car in certain locations, something maybe 40, or 50 people on earth will ever actually do.
- indestructable tyres, get them as bald as you want and the only penalty is a slow degredation of traction until it hits 20% then goes no lower.
- basic damage modeling with no mechanical impact, and no matter how badly you damage the car the collision model remains the same, and as a result, the aerodynamics model (since it uses the collision model)
- a focus on squeezing more polygons into cars using adaptive tesselation when they could have spent that time actually improving gameplay
- Removal of endurance races, longest race in GT5/GT6 is 15 laps of brands hatch, gran turismo 1, on the PS1.. had a 60 lap race on grand valley speedway, the only way to win and use the Castrol Supra GT.
- No live used car dealerships (car offerings changing over time passed, was in from GT1-4).

It would be a terrible business desition

Agreed. Current GT is nothing but a relic of GT4. And what I am hearing that standard cars may be present in GT7. Lol. What a joke.

Clearly someone who, like me played GT5 / GT6 and thought "i want to be excited and blown away, but i'm not, worse, i'm underwhelmed and dissapointed"

Unfortunately, others seem to just take it as an attack of their favorite console and/or believe that so long as something sells, it should continue no matter how much doing so impacts the quality.

Gran Turismo 5 was an abonomination. Online play was fraustrating. Standard cars were an eyesore. But worst thing was the controls. I am a playstation fan. But I have to admit Forza is much better series than Gran Tourismo at the moment.
