Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo's next handheld should be a tablet

I really think this is the best strategy for them going forward. Create a custom tablet that has full 1st party Nintendo games as well as an iTunes type app store for all the smaller mobile games. Add a massive virtual console that lets you digitally download GB, GBA, DS, and 3DS games. Bundle each tablet with a free controller addon for the purists. This is clearly where the handheld market is gravitating towards in all major regions. It allows Nintendo to penetrate the casual market like they did with the DS, and still satisfy the hardcore Nintendo fans.

Thoughts?

Actually tablets are rather niche compared to cellphone gaming.

And with WiiU being less then successful and being based off a tablet as its main selling feature, Nintendo ain;t going down this route again

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I agree.

No, it should have touchscreen, be 3DS and DS compatible, Have two joysticks and the normal face buttons and a d-pad and should be more powerful, or as powerful as the Vita

I think its better if they have a dedicated gaming handheld rather than a Tablet cause compared to phone sales, the Android/apple tablets don't sell nearly as well but who knows

No, it will be another DS redesign, called the HDS. At least as powerful as the Vita or even more.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

That worked pretty well to Wii U and PSV... Being a full tablet only means you will compete with the full Apple and Samsung power and that is far from a nice thing. And to be a functional tablet, running a custom Nintendo OS with no apps won't help, the would have to go with Android. Nintendo phone?

A handheld with a controller bundled? Uhhh, no thanks @.@ that sounds terrible.

The Vita is a dedicated gaming handheld and the WiiU is a console. I'm not sure how that applies to my point.

Copycatting what is popular isn't what Nintendo is good at. Last time I checked they were better by making innovations. Besides, smartphone/ipad gaming is not very comfortable and it still seems to me like volatile mainstream that sooner or later will fade away.

At best, Ninty should make a better touch screen (like Vita's) and keep buttons, designed after the 2ds but more sleek and elegant. BUT KEEP THE BUTTONS

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...
