Forums - Gaming Discussion - Castlevania's Greatest Era. The Rating Game.

What Era had the Best Castlevania Games ?

1980 - 1989 22 17.19%

1990 - 2000 67 52.34%

2000 - 2009 32 25.00%

2010 - present 7 5.47%

Total:128

90s and 00s are dead even for me, Genesis, SNES, PS1, GBA and DS all had amazing titles I loved. Have not been that enthusiastic about most recent console entries.

I am replaying Castlevania:Bloodlines on Genesis right now, a highly underrated game and one the best in my opinion. But if I would choose, than it is Dracula X from the PS/Saturn era.

I really do need to pick up a used Sega Genesis. So many great games released on that console.

I 1st played Dracula X on the Psp a few years back. It was awesome

I played it on my Saturn, in japanese and all. Me and my brother had to take huge amount of notes, write maps and such in order to get through the game :).

BTW, Bloodlines has my favorite music of any Castlevania game ever, stage 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lASJN8soPtU I still get a big smile on my face when I hear it!

I have a special place in my heart for the NES games being a kids of the 80's BUT...the GBA titles are the best of the bunch.

On one hand we have the 90s era ( Symphony of the Night which is in my top 10 and Super Castlevania IV which is the best classic Castlevania game imo), but the other hand we the 2000s era ( Dawn of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin are all amazing games)......... Yup, I am going with the 2000s era!

Don't forget Circle of The Moon. The best music in the series imo.

I did enjoy Circle of Moon, but it feel just short of being an amazing game in my book!

Different strokes I suppose. I own all of the GBA titles and think they're the best of the bunch. The only other entry that stands up to them imo is of course, SOTN.

Pretty much no contest IMO. 1990-2000.

Super CastleVania IV (SNES)
CastleVania: The New Generation (Bloodlines) (Mega Drive/Genesis)
Rondo of Blood (PC Engine CD)
Vampires Kiss (SNES)
Symphony of the Night (Saturn/PS1)

No other era can come close to that.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Yeah, the GBA and DS games are amazing.. It kinda upsets me that the same cannot be said for the 3DS game...

Whoever decided to stop making Metroidvanias should be fired for sure.

Pfffffft, CastleVania IV, New Generation and Rondo of Blood are the peak of CastleVania, it all went downhill when they started making Metroid clones :p
