Hey Symbios63, is there any chance that we might see an overlay of actual sales trends on the Amazon trends?  I'd love to see if they correlate.

You mean : doing the same thing with the best selling list on amazon ? If yes, then no, that would take me way too much time a day. (although I agree it would be interesting)

It does show how Amazon can favour some consoles over others. 3DS dead last XD

Yeah, 3ds is completely off.

I think trends might be more informative on those graphs that absolute values. Like the WiiU rise before MK8.

It is way to early to conclude anything on the predictive value of those graphs though. Can be anywhere from "completely useless" to "moderately good indicator".

Not exactly.  I don't just mean Amazon's sales; I mean overall sales.  What I'm interested in seeing is how predictive Amazon is of the overall market.  I know you aren't using the sales numbers, but it would allow us to see if the trends correlate.  It would give us some idea if a rise/drop in popularity on Amazon is actually indicative of a rise/drop in real-world sales totals.

Does that make sense?

Ouff, that titan-fall

Yeah, that's kind of what I was getting at.  I'd love to know how meaningful they really are.  Even if the numbers themselves aren't very accurate, as long as the trends match up, they would still be a useful guide for the overall direction of the market.

Ah ok :). This, I can totally imagine doing it in the future. Would require some work but definitely doable.

Awesome!  I look forward to seeing it.

If I may ask, what software are you using?  I've been working on some charts of my own and I'm wondering if there's anything better than the program I'm using.

Those charts were just done with excel.

There is a sofware called prism that is quiet convenient for charts.

Ah, I see.  Well, thank you for the info!

Ok, as I was suggested, here is a correlation between my "amazon most wished for items" points vs actual sales. Thank you to the guy who gave me the idea (I can't read his name for some reasons...)  :)

For sales, one point = 1k

PS4

Not too bad, but small spikes are not detected.

XBO

Pretty good to some extent, rise in points usually precedes rise in sales.

WiiU

Very Good so far... :)

3DS

Completely off as expected in absolute values. May be ok for trends but it remains to be seen... Let's wait for this christmas 2014 100$ smash bros bundle... :)

Vita

Not too bad either.

Well, so far, exept the 3DS, I am rather nicely surprised by those correlations. What do you think ?
