It is hard to go it alone. Just think what would happen if Mexico still had Texas or US still had Canada. We would be much stronger.

Denmark and Sweden are "weak" if you would look at it like you probably mean and people there have still less problems on average as in USA, UK, Russia, China or Germany.

Power of a country doesn't automatically mean that the population has something from that. USA is also much more powerful as Canada and Canadians don't really suffer from that do they? It's not as if a Canadian sits in his office chair and has to think "man, if Canada would be 10x as powerful like USA is, my life would be so much better now"

Sure, maybe USA would profit if Canada would be a part of USA but not because you would be even bigger and more powerful on this planet. More because Canada does pretty good so that pretty much every country  could be happy if they would be a part of them.

So, two countries with smaller populations with little outside influence or interest have less problems than large countries. Interesting observations.

Not scottish, but sure, independence for the win! Britian is doing a horrible job with its politics, and are already engulfed in flames of political anger and turmoil.  Better leave dat sinking ship scottish mates!

I'd think that Scotland becoming independent would be a huge culture shock it its citizens. The UK is one of the most prominent countries in the world and by leaving Scotland becomes irrelevant in world affairs.

There are certain advantages to being independent, they have north sea oil but I'm not sure on other income.

However, they instantly leave the EU, so any trading or EU benefits are lost. If they want to join they have to give up the pound. Because they are not in the EU food prices are expected to go up. One of their biggest banks, RBS, is owned by the british goverment, so ownership would be split.

They get 10% of the national debt and military.

Hmm, pie.

Honestly, I don't see it happening. And from a financial perspective it doesn't make a whole lot of sense either.

Still, we should know in a week.

Alas, no.

Hmm, pie.

An independent Scotland would be taking a big step down in terms of political power compared to being part of the United Kingdom. Also anyone in Scotland that believes they'll be allowed into the EU after independence has to rethink their ideas...
