I'm English and hope the useless scots piss off and they can take all the scots in Westminster with them like Cameron the useless scot bastard PM.

There seems to be an underlying  view with many of the English and Welsh that "Fine you want to go, just go."

I am happy to admit, I've very intregued by the idea of Scotland being independent from the rest of the UK. Not only because my passport/nationality will technically change. Things like anyone born in Scotland but have lived in England, Wales and NI their whole lives pretty much. What will happen to them? Will they need working Visas? What do we do with the border?

Sadly, Cameron being born in London means he won't go anywhere.

Hmm, pie.

I don't think they should be independent.

Do what other countries do seize there property and boot them back to Scotland.

I'm looking forward to Scots realizing that being independant means losing free prescriptions, dental and opticians as well as taxes going up.

The UK spends far more per person on Scotland than England and has for decades and that will finally stop.

I hope they do. If I was sSottish I would vote to separate, screw the redcoats. :D

I'm also curious to know what they'd change the flag too if they did separate and go independent.

If by they you mean the left over United Kingdom. I don't think anything would change, Scotland would just use the Saltire while United Kingdom will stay the same. We are still British after all, the Union Flag represents us as well as Scotland (even if they don't think it does).

If the Scottish vote to remain in the UK, all copies of Braveheart need to be destroyed and the movie banned forever.
They constantly torment people with kilts, scotch and fried Snickers bars, now it's their chance to put their pen where their mouth is.
And if they choose not to be independent, Scotch must be renamed to Britch.

What's the difference between Scottland and Ireland? I've met people from both and they have the same accent, same last name, seems like the same mannerisms. Can someone tell me please?

Basically, to give you a rough explanation.

The two people are descendents of the same race- Gaels, who seem to have arrived in Ireland from Northern Spain. The North of Ireland and Scotland are actually very close, geographically. People were easily able to travel between the two countries by sea, and did so for centuries, with many Irish Gaels settling in lowland Scotland, maintaining their culture and language.

This map shows a DNA analysis of the two countries. As you can see from the green regions shown above, there is an extremely close connection.

Culturally the native languages are extremely close, with Scottish Gaelic decending from Irish (Gaeilge).

So you have culture, language, history and genetics tying the two people together to greater or lesser extents.

The accent is closer to the Northern Irish accent then any other region of Ireland, but to someone living in Britian or Ireland, A Scottish accent is easiliy distinguishable from an Irish one.

That poll is very close to the actual polls it's kinda strange. The don't knows will decide this though.

I hope even in the case of a no vote my country the UK sees greater devolution and federalisation for all regions not just Scotland.

I wonder what happens if 50% say yes and 50% say no, that would be too close

I vote no, I mean it doesnt affect me here in UK, but still, it's like losing a brother who lives in the next house as you still, it's weird without scotland, we are UK, united!

I sympathise with the independence sentiment, but ultimately I think it's better to stay in the Union. Hopefully they can get more autonomy out of this. They should be about as self governing as a US state IMO, that would be a good balance.
