Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A New Content Model for Nintendo

Hybrids will be a though sell simply because the consumer clearly wants diffrent experiences on different occasions. To cut it short, handhelds are for short burts of single-player gameplay ( "in the same room"), while home consoles are for more prolongued sessions of gameplay (with multiplayer or not).

A great example of why this is the case is the Vita. That console failed because it wanted to be a portable home console. It fell short on that because if you wanted a home console experience, you would actually buy a home console (at the same price btw - PS3 was also at $250).

So no, a hybrid console would be a terrible idea. At least at the current state of technology.

Actually a Hybrid console done right can be good. Sony failed this, Nintendo has more expertise in the mobile gaming market

Yes, he talked about unified OS, architecture and services, but he specifically mentioned that no, not all of their games will be on both consoles (if we do get 2 and not 3 for example). The games will only be shared in what platforms it makes sense to (ex: Pushmo, DKC, etc.).

Where did they say that?

A glorified DLC system but on a systematic pay service... yeah, no thanks.

You mean like COD or Madden, where the games are so water down now that they suck. This why Nintendo will stay relevant over the years to come is because they do not release a, for example, Mario Kart every year. The game would get old and tired, just like Madden or COD. Releasing the franchise once a system keeps people playing the throughout the hardware's life cycle. Nintendo wants to make GREAT games not just mediocre ones every year. QUALITY over QUANTITY

No the exact opposite of COD or Madden. Read the OP. You would have your base Mario Kart 8 game and it would get SUPPORT throughout the entire generation. New tracks, new modes, characters, etc. etc. So with Nintendo's new approach I think the idea of a console "generation" might get blurred a little bit, but I think a base of 3 or 4 or 5 years, depending on the game, would be good.

Oh ok i misunderstood your concept i see what you mean now. That would be nice to be able to upload a few new karts, tracks etc, to keep it fresh. Maybe the Amiibos will allow that to happen.

Yes I would like to see a subscription based service where you get DLC for a certain number of games or something like that.

Wow, this is kind of like what I was envisioning

I rather have the full game first with optional and fair DLC than wait years for more stuff added.....

I would hate Nintendo if that happened. :(

I would hate GAMING if that happened.

I think this approach makes sense for IP like Star Fox and F-Zero where they can make a decent looking engine for the games once, sell that digitally for say a low price of $29.99, and and then release new content on a yearly/bi-yearly basis.

Yearly or bi-yearly would be far too little for this to work. it would have to be bi-monthly at least. I'm talking new tracks, modes, characters, vehicles, etc. It would make sense for any IP as well.
