Forums - Gaming Discussion - [Prediction] Destiny will go down as the best-selling traditional console game ever (UPDATE: I was way off, never mind)

How much will Destiny sell (lifetime)?

< 10 million 32 27.83%

15 million 29 25.22%

20 million 32 27.83%

30 million 7 6.09%

40 million 2 1.74%

50+ million 12 10.43%

Total:114

It's funny. Just watched 10 minutes of Destiny alpha footage and NOTHING HAPPENED. Lot's of talking to a droid or something, walking with a gun and opening doors with loads of melodrama.

Do people even know what they're pre ordering?

Check out the PvP matches if you haven't. That must be what's attracting people to the game. Oh, and the white PS4.

Not if they will advertise it only for one or two platforms and they probably will. I say it will sell a lot but more like 15-20m (probably closer to 20m).

€dit: Ok your 25m could happen biut I think this is the absolute maximum it could achieve.

Current Gen Destiny will outsell Last Gen Destiny.

Id even venture to say 2:1. With the lower install base of the Current Gen, I do not see how it will sell that high.

Im really curious to see how many White PS4 bundled are made (could be absolutely huge through the Holiday).

The new consoles have already broken records (Most sold in a Week in a Region, Most sold in a day...etc) maybe they will surprise me and do it again this holiday, thus pushing up Destiny sales even more.

14.

I believe that Destiny will finish with around 55+ million sales across all platforms, which is right in front of Minecraft (I'm not going to count Wii Sports since that was a bundle-only game).

The game has a $500,000,000 budget for marketing and development, and is planned to have a much longer life-cycle than most games. Not only that, but it's releasing on 4 consoles too, with a PC release not completely out of question.

It also helps that it has some serious developer recognition beind it (Bungie), and that the game actually looks like it'll live up to the hype and more.

Now, I'm probably horribly, terribly wrong on this, but for some reason it makes sense in my head, lol

After thinking it over, I realized I must have been possessed or something when I made this thread, cause no way is it going to match Minecraft on a new generation. My new prediction is 25 million

do you mean xbone xbox360 ps4 ps3  combined?

Yes

Even Call of Duty took one really well liked game to take off. Destiny sales will be a lot closer to 5.5million than 55million.

Install base on new consoles is still low and its a new IP so it won't sell well on the old consoles. 10-15mil would be a safe bet unless they take a really long time making the sequel. If Destiny is really well liked though that puts the sequels in a really good position to sell well.

Regardless, no fancy dancy HD console game will ever reach 55million. There just simply won't ever be enough gaming PCs that can handle the game/consoles to get to that number.

Its going to do more than 5 million on launch week alone.....way more

Yes. But even if it does 5mil launch week and 10-20mil lifetime that is still a lot closer to 5.5mil than 55mil.

gotta be honest here, from what i seen it looks pretty generic. I could see the entire franchise sell about 7 mil though

I'm more than sure that GTA 5 will be pretty close if not over 55m, ps360 versions alone could reach 40m(since they already should be somewhere about 35), ps4 - 8m+, x1-5m+, pc - 3m+, at the very least.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is at 32mil sales according to vgchartz. It's very unlikely it is going to reach 40mil on current gen consoles. Their sales started out really strong but their current sales are currently no better than a typical call of duty in its first July.

AndI don't think next gen sales are not going to be anywhere near your prediction. Heck the ps3/360 versions of Grand Theft Auto 4 didnt sell much more than 8mil each. And those weren't just hd ports. This is a game everyone who is an early next gen adopter already owns.

Sales of the ps4 version will be lower than watch dogs sales and sales of the xbox one version will be lower than titanfall sales. The PC version could potentially be pretty big, but only because there is probably a sizeable chunk of PC only gamers who haven't got to experience the game yet.

To be fair it will get somewhat close, but I still think it will end up a good 10mil short of 55mil. What I should have said is no soon to be released game will be able to sell that well because no new game will be able to sell anywhere near 35mil on the ps3/360 anymore.

Maybe if by some miracle the ps4/xboxone become as popular as the 360 and ps3 ended up becoming it could happen with a cross gen game 8 years from now.
