Bad comparison. The wii had explosive sales because of the motion controls. Once the excitement over them and wiifit was over, the hardware sales suffered massively. Same with xb360 and kinect. PS consoles, on the other hand, keep selling well over longer periods of time because of the combo of good 1st and 3rd party games. Please bump the thread in 6 years if the ps4 doesn't manage to sell 100m by then. The ps4 doesn't need to sell 100k every week. It can do 100m with less than than in some weeks (and more than the wii in other weeks). I have little doubt that it will keep selling well after its 5th year unlike the wii.

lol, it isn't a bad comparason, I am telling you basically what you need to hit 100m sales. This is something that the PS4 isn't doing. The Wii was hitting more than what the PS4 in 2012. The Wii had never dropped (never checked all the weeks, if it did get to them, it was an outlier) to what the PS4 numbers are now until sometime later in 2012. So with the PS4 selling and following the trend it is, it will never hit 100 mil sales. It will need to sell around what it is now every week on average for the next 9 or so years to make it to 100m which we all know, it will not keep the current numbers. It will slowly drop overall with spikes here and there and we also know that the next generation of playstation will come before 9 years from now otherwise Sony will be the ones that are getting left behind.

Can people please stop speaking for others for a change? No, "everyone" doesn't think that way. Some of us (maybe most, maybe just a few, definitely not everyone) think that it would start selling better weekly the next couple of years when games like Uncharted, Metal Gear 5, FF15, KH3, etc launch.

Yes still selling half as many a week = closing the gap. TLOU isn't even out yet on PS4 people. Always give any slaes spike a full month or two before you start jumping up and down.

As I said last time. They aren't closing the gap. PS4 is still outselling both the Xbox One and Wii U every week. Gap between them is still getting wider every week.

The OP just wasn't very clear. He's saying that the gap in weekly sales between the systems is closing, not the gap in LTD sales.

Three months ago, the weekly sales numbers of the three platforms looked like this:

PS4 - 176k
XBO - 72k
WiiU - 39k

Giving a proportion of 61%-25%-14%

In the last full June week, they looked like this:

PS4 - 105k
XBO - 65k
WiiU - 60k

Giving a proportion of 46%-28%-26%

To give you a sense of how much of a shih gft this is, suppose that the total sales for the generation are going to be around 200 million. With the distribution 3 months ago, that puts PS4 at 122 million, XBO at 50 million, and Wii U at 28 million. With the distribution now, it's PS4 at 92 million, XBO at 56 million, and Wii U at 52 million. See the difference?

Thats not saying much on how the rest of the gen or even the rest of the year will go. Wii U had one of the 2 biggest games it's ever going to get and Xbone had a 100$ price cut. PS4 got nothing and it still came out first every time.

Ps4 is also the only that didnt get a price cut NOR a big system seller like Titanfall or Mario Kart. I cant even begin to think what the gap will look like once Destiny bundle hits, the new Uncharted, Gran Turismo and a first price cut...

I really am not sure why people are shouting, guaranteeing that PS4 will sell 100+ easily, it's like most of the posters on here have completely skipped 7th Gen.

If PS3 had the opportunity to turn the tide, so does any console for that matter, unless you haven't realized yet there's no particular brand loyalty anymore as the PS4/Xbone are effectively one and the same in terms of performance and third party. What separates them is the price and exclusives mostly. For the reason of the price, I've picked up a PS4, and they've actually made changes to PS3 (Which I disliked pretty much inside out due to its interface and controller).

Fyi some people are getting ridiculous, one would think they own majority in a company.

Any Sony console. Sony did it, MS and Nintendo didn't.

There was such a lot of reasons why PS2 secured total domination - mostly that it was early, affordable, had little competition at time of release, and was the sequel to the exceptionally popular PS1 (being backwards compatible with this console didn't hurt either). PS4 just doesn't have these things going for it so I'd be mightily surprised if it dominated to that extent.

There's no comparable example from MS/Nintendo, original Xbox being irrelevant, as its legs were cut right under it due to production issues where it was shortly discontinued. It was launched 2.5 years AFTER PS2, after it has gained momentum, support, virtually everything. The example is far fetched, if anything this gen launch is the "fairest" launch that both consoles have, on the third attempt.

My point being, MS dropped the ball with 360 support in the last few years of the cycle, which allowed PS3 to pick up the pace, same can happen this gen, and it seems like Sony are already beginning to drop ball with having a famine year right at its launch. I mean I still got PS4, but I virtually got no games that interest me on it atm outside Watchdogs, having to wait for TLOU, so am not really surprised that all PS4 owners would much rather just spam up the forums.

I have PS4 since launch, I pkay games on it every day, and I already managed to have 7 PS+ games on backlog. So the only reason someone might say that PS4 has no games is that person having very limited interest in games.

In the past 8 months, there might have been 4 or 5 weeks with no new games, they come regularly every single Tuesday.

Also, when talking about catching up, XBox has no chance to do so on a global scale. PS4 could be found to cause cancer and syphillis, and it would still outsell XOne in Europe, that's how huge the brand is and why it managed to take 2nd place last gen after all the blunders, all the time never being cheaper than X360.

I hear you. There seems to be not much coming out for PS4. But if PS3 is any indication people know that early in the gen can be slow but the future has much to look forward to. Remembert the "PS3 has no games" meme? Well, that's because last gen started exactly like this one. I think the major downfall to this gen as opposed to last is that PS4 is embracing the indy realm and most of those games are horrible. Not to mention most of what's being offered to us currently are remasters of past titles. With that being said though, I don't understand why PS4 gets such a bad rap for having not much to play when WiiU and Xbox One also have few titles. I mean, MK8 has doubled WiiU's baseline but Nintendo can't release a new Mario game every month can they...?
