Forums - Nintendo Discussion - UPDATE! Megaton Virtual console subscription incoming?! Emily Rogers hinting at secret sauce in that 8.0 3ds update...?

What do you wany?

Unlimited vc access $5 a month 18 21.18%

unlimited vc access $9 a ... 16 18.82%

cross play 39 45.88%

I like to waste money 12 14.12%

Can someone clarify what's going on here exactly? Is this all about cross buying games or something else?

A subscription service is coming to Nintendo without a doubt. It has worked too well for MS and especially Sony for them to ignore. Nintendo also has the greatest back catalog to exploit. I'm pretty sure they are going to follow the Sony model and introduce the free game subscription to Wii U, then transfer it to their next home console which will be more powerful but hide the cost in a paid online/free old game model. It just makes too much sense.

What are you people talking about? It's not paying for online multiplayer.

It wasn't for PS+ on PS3, either.

Yes but PS+ was never a subscription service for ps one classics or something like that either.

There is nothing to clarify.  Simply, the latest firmware update for the 3DS is 8.0 as opposed to 7.XX, yet only addressed stability issues.  Emily Rogers, a known rumor miller, suggests that she hears of a secret reasoning behind the update.  Many here have speculated about cross-play or subscription services for the WiiU VC. Nothing is confirmed, everything is speculative.  You could even add in your own theory and spice up the conversation a bit.

Here's one...

The update is making the 3DS compatible as a controller for the WiiU.

I don't get why people would want to buy vc games for 10-15 a piece instead or having unlimited access to them for only 9 dollars a month. Are you kidding me? I'd get a year's worth of money worth out of that deal in one month alone!

VC games aren't that much, and 9$/m is quite a lot for that kind of subscription, especially with the current limited state of the library.

Can someone please tell me when Emily Rogers has EVER been right about anything? I remember hearing her spout all sorts of nonsense before the Wii U launched and it was all terribly wrong, and I keep seeing her name being brought up in correlation to rumors that are later proven false. Why should I care about her?

A new encryption key to prevent use of flashcards to run pirated 3DS games, eshop and online play is much more likely part of the 8.0 update.

They don't need that. The highest firmware that allows exploits is 4.3. All flashcarts require a 4.3 3ds.

I don't get it either. She was hinting at some kind of cross-platform functionality of VC games before the 3DS update last fall if I remember right. We all know how that turned out. I'm sure if she repeats herself enough she'll eventually be right, but anyone can do that >_>

I got the update notification but while I was driving away from home. Has anyone download it yet?

VC games are 9.99 for SNES games and probably will be 15 for GCN titles if they ever get to that. You're right though the library needs to be greatly expanded and hopefully if they did make a subscription service they would make a big dump of games as well along with it because the service would flop without more available. What is the reason that they are so slow with the virtual console? My theory is that they want to maximize sales for each title released.

Is Emily Rogers .. I don't get why people is even paying attention to the BS rumors that she says.
