My favourite game of all time is on Gamecube: Resident Evil 4.

You're the first one to mention the game. How can people talk about the Gamecube being underrated without mentioning RE4? How?

cause a better version of teh game was released not too long after on PS2, then on Wii then on PS360 you get the point

The PS2 version wasn't really better it just had a bit of extra content looks wise the GameCube version was still superior not to mention the game played better with a GameCube controller.

If it's any Nintendo console that's underrated it's the WII ... I don't understand the hate for a good console.

NES got the credits it deserved, SNES was a little overrated, N64 and GC were trash because they didn't come close to delivering a worthwhile experience.

I almost agreed with an entire post of yours! But yeah, the Wii has plenty of worthy games for serious gamers that never require you to wiggle. I hate it when people act like every game makes you shake, rattle and roll.

Most of them do, and thats what the problem was.

It's not a problem if you read reviews beforehand so you know what you're getting into, and only play what sounds relevant to your interests. How is that any different than any game on every console ever?

Most of the good third party games made for the hardcore gamer crowd let you forego motion controls entirely, and many even gave you the option to play with a Classic Controller. There are a few that required motion input, like Okami, Zak & Wiki, and Red Steel 2, but if you have a problem with motion controls in games like those, that's a "you" problem, and I question why you ever bothered to own a Wii at all. Okami was truly enhanced by motion controls and turned combat from a button masher into a timing and rhythmic brawler, and painting actions more seamless and natural. If you take the motion controls out of Red Steel 2, you have no game.

There was a lot of crap that was born from motion controls, but anyone who thinks it never enhanced any games is only kidding themselves.

By the way, when I say "you," I don't mean at oniyide, I mean "you" in general.

only core gamers are gonna read reviews. We all know that and even them only some of them do. Hell if reviews were that important Just Dance would have died years ago.

I dont have a problem with those games. Red Steel 2 is one of my fav games on the system. I bought the Wii for those games. But my problem is there werent ENOUGH of those games. There were way too many crap like Bachelor or generic game collection #443 than there were things like Red Steel 2.

And IMHO it didnt enchance ENOUGH games. Besides FPS i cant really think of a genre that truly beneffited from the motion controls. IMHO i think alot of gamers felt like this hence why they are not enamored by the Wii. But thats just one issue.

Again, if someone doesn't  bother to read reviews, that's their problem, and that's the reason Just Dance is overrated. In fact, it feels like the post above is augmenting my feelings that the Wii is the most underrated, because people didn't bother to do their homework on finding the good games.

When you say the unique control scheme didn't enhance enough games, you're mostly thinking of games that were completely defined by their controls, a la FPS and stuff like Zak & Wiki and Okami. There were plenty of games that made more subtle use of motion controls and/or the IR pointer that replaced typical button inputs in ways that weren't memorable, but didn't hurt gameplay either.

you just think Just Dance is overrated? Interesting. But IMHO thats my problem. Why should you HAVE to do research for a system like that I shouldnt throw a dart in a store and hit some shovelware title. If i have to do research just to get to some decent games, not even good decent then that console's library in the end really isnt that good. IMHO.  The irony is that people who think is overrated are the people doing the research they are forum goers liek me. Just Dance people love the system for hte most part.

See thats the thing thats not good enough, nto when you are basing your entire console around it. It aint hurting gameplay but it aitn enchancing it so whats really the point at the end of the day? Better off just sticking to a regular controller at least then you know its gonna work. And there were some games they just shoehorned it in just to say they had it that did make it worse (looking at you DKCReturns) Thats just me.

Well weren't you saying Just Dance is overrated by its audience, essentially? Perhaps I misunderstood.  My point is that if you're a serious gamer, you shouldn't be throwing darts at any console's library, you should be doing your homework on what and what not to play. If you're not a serious gamer, then you're probably cool with mindless drivel like Just Dance. And if you fall into the former category, then you should know that the Wii has plenty of good games for you.

If I owned a PS2 in its heyday, I wouldn't walk into a store and randomly pick out a game based on it's box art or something along those lines. Why would I do that for the Wii? For that matter, why would you (not in general this time. YOU, oniyide)? Are you telling me you close your eyes, point your finger, spin in a circle, count to an arbitrary number and pick a game based on where you stop? No, I'm quite sure that all of your game purchases are well informed decisions.

Furthermore, it's not the fault of the Wii itself that many of its best games never got any real estate on store shelves that were dominated by the likes of Just Dance and the Michael Jackson Experience. That doesn't make those games any less meaningful or deserving of attention. The fact that you have to go out of your way to find the Wii's hidden gems only serves to make my point, and the point of this thread: the Wii is the most underrated Nintendo console. I don't think there is anything else I can say without repeating myself, so please feel free to rebuttal. However, if I have nothing more to add, I will not waste your time or mine with a resposne.

GC is the most underrated.
N64 is the most overrated.

Definitely Wii.

GC had some amazing games like RE4, Prime, Timesplitters but most of them were in my eyes dissapointing. Yes, Sunshine, Double Dash, Twilight Princess & Prime 2 are still dissapointing to me so i think GC deserves what it got.

Wii however, though underpowered, gave us some of the best singleplayer and multiplayer games ever since the SNES days with multiple controller choices. Yet, people still trash it.

Around the Network

I'd have to say the Wii. "Hardcore gamers" ignored some legitimately great titles on that one cause they weren't HD enough.

N64 - People know it's good, but local multiplayer hasn't been the same since. I still have mine plugged in.

----

NES - I don't care much about
SNES - people often regard as the best Nintendo system
GCN - Has an over-rated niche crowd. GCN had some good games, but nothing ridiculous like SNES/N64/Wii had
Wii - meh, love me some XenoBlade and Zelda, but overall it does collect dust.

GC had the best of Zelda, Metroid, Smash, Paper Mario, F-Zero and Resident Evil..

But i dont just go in a store and pick randomly. Im just sayng that I COULD walk into a store and pick randomly and hit some shovelware nonsense. that is an issue ive never really had with any home console ive played on. I have done my research and ive found the WIi DIDNT have many games for me. Thats my whole point. Hell i got my Wii around the same time as PS3 and i STILL have a huge backlog of PS3 games and there are still some coming that i want to play that havent even seen release. Thats something i cant say for the WIi.

Those games were dominated by the likes of MJ and Just Dance becasue THOSE are the games that put up the big numbers. So you cant really blame retailers for putting those games front and center. Now with that being said I personally cant take it seriously as a gamer if those are the games that are front and center. I think they are overrated because they barely even work but thats just me.

At the end of the day its all about preference. I think the library just isnt that good hidden gems or not. I thought the 1st party titles actually went down in quality (Mario Galaxy is the exception) and the 3rd party games were of course terrible. My point was i dont have to go out my way for most other systems to get a good game. There is no shovelware nonsense to wade through with the others. Even PS2 didnt have it that bad. IMHO i think a lot of the games for the system is overrated because the other games suck so bad they look way better next to it. Ill use Goldeneye as example. Love that game probably my most played game on WIi. Played it from release up to when they shut servers down. Now it still think its overrated because its just a good FPS. But its probably the best on the system, which in itself is sad and backs my point up. Now take that same game and throw it on PS360 and it doesnt even register becasue those systems have WAY better games it doesnt stack up to the halos, killzones, bioshocks hell even CODs of those systems.
