Im not out on this right now.... the s10+ beats a base xo and ps4 but the x1x and ps4 pro muddened the water regarding my estimation.
Because if the next gen is only a bit stronger then the x1x or pro the phones are the way to go, expecially with stadia aswell in mind.

I have no clue whether an S10+'s Snapdragon is equal to whatever CPU is in a base model PS4. The RAM looks fine at 8 - 12 GB. Current prices have that phone listed for $1000 on both Amazon and Best Buy though. So, even if an S10+ really were as powerful as a base model PS4, there would still be a ridiculous price gap. Or are consumers so idiotic that they will gladly pay a grand for a phone over four or five years of payments?

We don't know enough about Stadia at this point to know if it will be a success. There's no price, and no list of games. Who knows if internet in the US will be good enough to run it for most consumers.

Snapdragon 855 should beat an 8-core Jaguar by a sizable margin.

Bandwidth is where things fall short though... The 855 will only offer about 34.13GB/s of bandwidth, which is going to limit it's gaming capabilities, especially at higher resolutions that the Playstation 4 will target.

GPU wise the Adreno is surprisingly capable and extremely efficient, more so than AMD's ageing Graphics Core Next architecture... But at the end of the day, the Playstation 4 has a sheer larger number of functional units which means it should win in every scenario.

Now when comparing Snapdragon against the Xbox One, things start to lean towards the Snapdragon a little more, but the Xbox One should still hold a slight edge in the GPU/Bandwidth department.

Not for another generation or two. Not mobile, but streaming will replace consoles eventually. Too many people not taking Stadia whatever it's called seriously enough.

Thanks for that, because I had no idea where to start comparing the two in terms of CPUs, or GPUs.

Forget about the Pro and the X, its not like they gonna have exclusive or separate, they just play the games at 4K with slighty better graphics

look at this: https://www.vg247.com/2013/01/07/xbox-360-and-ps3-losses-total-8-billion-ex-sony-employee-paints-grim-future/

Sony was trying to avoid the miskates like the ones with PS3, Microsoft well wanted to go greedy in the first place with the stupid always on kinect, always on DRM and $100 more

The real problem is that you people were so cheap in the previous gen:

Console gamers about PS3: Its Overpriced
PC gamers about PS4: Its Underpowered

yes specs are important, but think how much PS4 would costed if wasnt underpowered: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps4-cost-381-to-build-report/1100-6416251/
I wouldnt mind spending $700 on PS4 at day one but it would get critized for being too expensive

At least somebody tell me what Sony should have done the PS4 back in 2013, you cant make them more powerful without increasing the price

This is exactly the reason why a PS5 won't be so much stronger than an Xbox One X. It's technically possible, but not for a price of 499 or even less.

So you complain about being underpowered, but you cant think about the price if wasnt underpowered

If you didnt spend $599 on PS3, then you shouldnt care about the PS4 specs

Why is that? I waited two years to get my PS3.  Got the 80 GB CECHKxx version (non back compat phat) when it was like $499.  Still bought PS4 day one and PS4 Pro Day one.

That ex-Sony employee works for a mobile firm. Of course he would write that mobile was going to take off back in 2013. It's nothing more than propaganda by a mobile gaming company employee for mobile gaming.

I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing out that, for a console twice as powerful as the One X, you need very beefy and expensive hardware, which is currently high-end PC hardware and where the GPU alone costs more than a PS3 at launch, and producing more heat than the whole console case can support.

Thus, we will most probably have consoles with hardware which is a bit less powerful, but cheaper both in price and TDP budget. The CPU will get a big upgrade, and more RAM will allow for better Textures, but the GPU itself won't become much more powerful than the one on the One X.
