Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So Mario Kart 8 Isn't Going To Give The Wii U Even 1 Month At 100k+ In The US?

Well for june we are already sat at around 77000 usa sales with one week left so its possible if wii u is undertracked which could be the case so why not wait and see. Either way its smashed nearly 2.5 million sales already so its clearly beasting

Well there was a hope that maybe they could salvage this like the N64 to some extent, but it doesn't seem possible at this point.

Nintendo's probably done for in the traditional console space, they will expand out into other business ventures going forward and just have mainly a handheld centric hardware focus from here on out. Console's look like a dead end now.

To be fair though I'm not even certain Microsoft will make another traditional console either, the "next" XBox could just as easily be a cloud-based XBLA streaming service, that seems to be more up MS' alley if the XB1 does not meet their expectations.

The Wii U failure only means that the N64/GC software direction/sucking up to third parties route is done for. But you'd rather see Nintendo crumble as a whole instead of admitting that what you want has no future.

I don't really care what the approach is, I just like Nintendo games. To be honest the SNES/N64/GCN/Wii/Wii U are not really that different in terms of Nintendo's own support, they have mostly the same IP and they're usually all of similar (high quality).

But I don't see them making another traditional console ... there is no market left for them is MS/Sony claim all the hardcore market and Apple/Android eats away all the casual/entry level gamers. There's simply nothing left for Nintendo.

Nintendo has never "sucked up" to third parties, like ever, either, lol, I don't know why you push that narrative like it has any basis in reality. The last system they made that was probably fairly acceptable to third parties was the Super NES, 20+ years ago and that was before third parties had Sony and MS as alternatives. How in the world was the N64 "sucking up to third parties"? How old were you even when the N64 came out?

Jesus guys this gen of consoles has like another 5 - 7 yrs left stop saying things have failed its getting boring now. Yes xone and wii u aint selling great right now anything could happen in the next 5 years. Chill.

XOne maybe can turn it around, but the Wii U already has spent Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, DKC, NSMBU, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Nintendo Land, Pikmin, etc. There's just not many bullets left in the gun as it were, maybe a miracle can happen though like Splatoon becomes the next huge blockbuster gaming franchise like a Minecraft or something.

But at this stage it's kinda like a guy who's been working out for 3 months and can still only manage like 3 push-ups thinking he's going to win a strong man competetion. The Wii U doesn't look like it's going to have 100k+ month in North America until November ... though maybe they can eek it out for June because it's 5 weeks instead of 4.

It's summer, video games' slowest time of the year.

Most underrated/overlooked console ever confirmed...

Then lets compare to the GameCube during it's exact same point in its lifecycle (summer 2003):

June 03 - 124k

July 03 - 126k

August 03 - 100k

September 03 - 165k

The sad thing is I'm not sure the *3DS* can even match some of these numbers this summer, let alone the Wii U.

Dreamcast was a much better system. :)

I fear you're being a bit too optimistic here. Postponed, perhaps, but not necessarily done for.
